A color scheme of yellow was carried throughout in the decorations. The table had a white lace cloth over yellow and the cutglass punch bowl contained yellow banana punch. The other ap pointments were yellow snapdragons, shasta daisies of yellow and white. Guests were served yellow cake squares, ham and cheese pickups and mixed nuts from a silver service. Grace and Doyt will be married April 20. Mrs. Holmes Aids New GS Trainees Mrs. Raymond Holmes recently returned from Atlanta where she assisted in a training course for new Girl Scout council presidents, vice presidents and executives. The course was held Tuesday through Friday last week and 34 GS officials were enrolled in the program held at the Travel Lodge at Executive Park. Mrs. Holmes is president of the Pioneer Girl Scout Council and resides in Kings Moun tain. KM Frosh Band Earns Superior The Kings Mountain High School Freshman Band was awarded a rating of “superior” at the North Carolina Junior High School State Band Contest Festival. The Festival was March 2 in Kannapolis. The band was directed by Robert Hendrick during the contest competition. GIVESJtECITAL Judy Ray field presented her voice recital at Western Carolina University at Cullowhee last Thursday. A senior, she has studied voice under Dr. Temple Smith for four years. She sang numbers in French, Italian and Ger man as well as English during her recital. After graduation this June Judy plans to teach music. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Diana, bride-elect of Dale Blanton, received gifts from the 50 guests who called between 2 and 4 p.m. The wedding is set for April 14. Spring flowers and the bride’s colors, green and white, were used in the decorative theme for the shower. The dinner began at 7:30 ptii. at the Suber home on Phifer Rd. with 30 people in attendance. Punch was served in the den followed by the buffet dinner. The color scheme throughout the home was spring flowers in green and white. The bride-elect was given a pewter pitcher and a yellow shoulder corsage by the host couples. Tate, Crescent Cr. The couple will be married Saturday. Eighteen guests were in vited to the Tate home, which was decorated with pink mums and carnations. 'They were served punch in the den. Tile livingroom table was decorated with floating can dles. The dining room table, from which a buffet dinner was served, was decorated with lighted tapers and a bridal doll. Place settings for the honorees were marked with engraved napkin rings. The couple was presented gifts of crystal by their hosts. Recipe Of The Week This week’s recipe is for those special dinner occasions and is recommended by Mrs. Mary Belle Webb. LONDON BROIL Three pounds top round steak, half to two inches thick. Make marinade consisting trf: three-fourths cup vegetable oil, half cup red wine vinegar one tablespoon herb seasoning Prick steak, sprinkle with meat tenderizer. Place in marinade, turning every 15 minutes. Allow to stand four hours in marinade. Charcoal on grill over hot coals about 45 minutes, searing both sides. Baste with marinade. Slice diagonally, salt and pepper and serve. If prepar^ in oven, broil 10- 15 minutes on each side. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Noel B. Webster of Raleigh announce the birth of a son, Brett Ketner, Sun., Mar. 3. The boy weighed 10 pounds, six ounces at birth in Rex Memorial Hospital. The first born is the grandson of J.W. Webster and late Ruby Webster and great- grandson of Mrs. Rena Dellinger of Kings Mountain. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ketner of Kannapolis. I*ai*k I'rojjriiiiis Jim Anderson, park historian at Kings Mountain National Park, was featured speaker at last Thursday’s KiwanisClub dimier meeting. Anderson told the Kiwanians of the summer programs the park sponsors and of the information and programs available for park \isitors. Oti Sunday afternoons during June, July and August the park sponsors public demonstrations of a Torie Camp, Anderson said. “We try to show the typical camp life, how food was cooked, the utensils used, the equipment used everyday, the costumes. “Local people and some from other communities help us,” he continued. “There is Jeff Hedden and Hilda Fowler fror. Kings Mountain. Phil h'rancis of Grover. Betty Baines of Clover and Dan Gold of Blacksburg. They diess in authentic costumes for the demonstrations.’' Anderson said the park also h ies to show how the moun tain man lived in those days, his weapons, his way of life. And on occasion there are even musket firing demon strations. Slide programs are available on weekends for visitors. Anderson, a Morganton native, has been here for the pastfouryears. He has been in the park service for nine years. Tonight's Kiwanis dinner meeting at the Kings Moun tain Woman's Club will feature Mrs. Helen Hendricks as .speaker.
