One of the lesser known, but
very effective package delivery
services offered by the U.S.
Postal Service Is Priority Mall,
according to Postmaster Fred
Weaver.
"When you send a package by
Priority Mall, It Is separated
from the regular parcel mall
stream and treated ns Flrst-
CSass Mall,” said Postmaster
Weaver. "If the destination Is
nearby, the package receives
expedited surface tran
sportation. For all other places
In the U.S. Priority Mall
packages go by air," he said.
A.s a result, more than 36
percent of Priority Mall
packages are delivered the next
day, and over 90 percent are

of overnight services.
For example, a one-pound
package sent from New York to
Los Angeles costs only $2.26. A
five-pound package mailed
Cars Stolen
From Local
Car Dealer
Police have recovered two of
the four vehicles which were
stolen Wednesday night from
Nation Chevrolet Co. on S.
Railroad Ave.
The break-ln was reportedly
discovered about 6:30 a.m.
Thursday when police officers
went to the business after fin
ding an abandoned van less than
a mile from the dealership.
Entry was reported made to the
building and a cutting torch
reportedly used to try to break
into a safe.
Reported stolen were a 1979
Chevrolet LUV pickup truck, a
1980 Camaro X-28, a 1979
Chevrolet van and a 1977
Chevrolet Vega that belonged to
a customer. Police reported
recovering the van and the
Vega, the latter abandoned on a
dirt road off U.S. 74 West of
Kings Mountain.
Only a small amount of gas
was reported to have been in the
vehicles.
Police are continuing their
investigation.
In other law enforcement
activities during the weekend:
Anthony T. Perkins, Rt. 1,
reported to KMPD Uiat a man
broke out his windshield and It
hit him in the face. Damage was
estimated at $160.
Approximately $30 In :^s was
reported stolen from a
Cleveland County school bus.
Robert Richard Horton, of 708
Meadowbrook Rd., reported
that thieves broke Into his
residence and took a 12 guage
shotgun, a .22 caliber rifle, one
diamond and gim case, valued at
$412.
