Edited by Jodi Plonk, a 1980 Cum Laude graduate, the publication received the first place award for the best literary magazine produced at all South Carolina universities and col leges last year. In addition, in Division II competition with the smaller schools, the “Kinnikinnick” took first place honors for the best photography, single photograph, best art work, best essay, and best humorous short story. An English major. Plonk also received the Dean Humanities Award during her senior year as the outstanding student in the fields of English, speech, dramatics and journalism during the College’s Awards Day Con vocation in May. Plonk is from Kings Moun tain. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Plonk. Pvt. Howell In Training Private William E. Howell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy R. McGinnis of Kings Mountain, is attending basic trainine at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. During the training, students receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and tradi tions. PIANIST NEEDED The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Depwtment is seeking a volunteer piano player for this year’s Community Youth Gospel Chorus.
