IMl-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Pag* SA Tournament Is Slated The second annual Jim Porter Memorial Heart Association Qualifying Amateur Golf Tour nament will be held on Saturday, March 21 at the Riverbend Golf Club on Highway 150. The en try fee will be $25 and will be contributed to the North Carolina Heart Association. There will be two divisions, in cluding a net division with four- man teams with net best ball score, and a gross division with two-man teams with the best ball score without handicaps. Par ticipants will play at 75 percent of their current certified han dicap with a maximum of 18 strokes allowed. In August, the winning team from each county will be eligible to participate in the N.C. Heart Association Team Amateur Golf Championship at the Foxfire Country Club in Pinehurst, with no green fees. The Cleveland County Tour nament is held in memory of the late Jim Porter, who before his death was chairman of the Pied mont Shrine Club Golf Tourna ment committee; vice-president of the Riverbend Golf Club and was a strong supporter of Gardner-Webb golf programs. Porter suffered a fatal heart at tack. Mrs. Porter will present pla ques to members of the winning team following the March 21 tournament. Names of the winn ing team members will also be added to the permanent plaque which hangs in the Riverbend Club House. “I would like to urge all golfers to support this tournament because it serves such a useful urpose,” Phil Wallace, River bend Golf Professional said. Those who would like to par ticipate in the tournament should contact Wallace at River bend Golf Club. Other area golf clubs will also have information on the tournament. Battleground Ave. Phone 739-2571 Rickenbacker All-Division ROCKY MOUNT — Two North Carolina Wesleyan Col lege women basketball players have been named to the NCAIAW Division III All- Division Team. Priscilla Ricken backer and Shari Webb, both underclassmen, have been selected for the honor. Rickenbacker, a sophomore guard playing her first year at Wesleyan, has led the division in scoring the entire season. She finished the regular season with a 21.2 points per game average, more than three points ahead of her nearest challenger for the scoring title. Rickenbacker was also ranked seventh in the state in field goal accuracy, shooting with 46.3 percent success from the floor. Shari Webb, a freshman from Zebulon, was the second Battl ing Bishop picked for the team. Shari finished the regular season ranked second in the state in field goal percentage (52.6 per cent) and fifth in points per game, tossing them in at a 15.1 points per game clip. “We are, of course, very ex cited to have two of our players receive such an honor,” said Wesleyan coach Laura Ferrell. ‘They are both excellent players and should continue to develop in the coming years. We are looking forward to having Priscilla for two more years and Shari for three more.” Webb is a graduate of Zebulon High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W'ebb of Zebulon. Rickenbacker is the grand daughter of Herbert McClain of Groser. She graduated from Kings Mountain High School. Spectrum, Carmet Win Carmet and the Bullets were winners in Commercial League basketball action W'ednesday night at the Neighborhood Facilities Center. Carmet edged Spectrum 57-51 as Randy Wingo scored 17 points, Billy Robinson 12 and Mike Mobley 10. Larry Hopper scored 23 and Wayne Howell 10 for the losers. Timmy Adams scored 20 points to lead the Bullets to a 64-53 win over Winn Dixie. Ver non Bell added 16 and Otis Young 15. Kevin James scored 20, Ken Odoms 15 and Marvin Caldwell 10 for Winn Dixie.
