IMI Senior Citizens May Register For Fair Kings Mountain area senior eili/ens are invited to participate in the annual Cleveland County Health Fair on Saturday, April 25 at the Senior Citizens Center in Shelby. The Fair is co-sponsored by the Cleveland County Health ELLEN LAVONE SMITH Ellen Smith Wins Bakeoff Ellen Lavone Smith, 15-year- old Crest Junior High ninth grader and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Taylor of Kings Mountain, won ftrst place in the recent Biscuit Bakeoff. She is the daughter of Robert and Ellen Smith of Route 11, Shelby and also granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Turkey Smith of Morganton. Loretta Husky In Sorority CHAPEL HILL — Loretta Kay Husky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orous H. Husky Sr., 606 Gantt St., has been initiated into Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorori ty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Miss Husky is a Radio/TV/Motion Picture major and a sophomore. She is also the president of the First Collegiate Bass Masters Association. Sigma Sigma Sigma is a na tional sorority with 80 college and university chapters. It is af filiated with the National Panhellenic Conference. Jane Redmond On Dean's List AMERICUS, Ga. - Among the 161 names listed on the winter quarter dean’s list from Georgia Southwestern College is Jane Lovelace Redmond. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thomas Beam of Kings Moun tain. She is the wife of Jeffrey Quinten Redmond of 201-B Murphys Mill Road, Americus, Ga. To qualify for the dean’s list students must have a 3.5 academic average with 3.0 as a “B.” Mrs. Redmond is a junior psychology major. Genealogy Seminar Set Local citizens arc invited to at tend a genealogy seminar on Sat., April 25, at the auditorium of the Cleveland County Office Building. Mills Bridges, a professional research genalogist whose special interests are families in old Tryon County, will be a speaker, along with Miles Philbeck, who has done genealogical research in the CaroLr.us for 20 years and Harold Rollins, a retired Navy commander who has done genealogical research in the old Tryon Community. Registration will be held from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. and a registration fee of $5 will be charged. Anniversary Is Scheduled The children of Mr. and Mrs. Carl C. Falls have issued invita tions to frl.nds and relatives to attend the 50th wedding an niversary of their parents. The reception will be held Sat., April 25th, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Friends and relatives are in vited to attend. Department, the Cleveland County Council on Aging, the Cleveland County Cancer Socie ty and the Cleveland County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Local citizens can pre-register by obtaining forms from First Citizens Bank on S. Bat tleground Avenue. The pre registration forms will enable citizens to make a specified ap pointment for the series of health screenings to be made available free of charge by the participating organizations. Health screening tests will be offered at various stations to cheek height, weight, blood pressure, vision, anemia, and hearing. Patients will also be of fered pap smears, colon, rectal, oral, prostate, and self breast ex amination for cancer and a new screening test this year will be a hearing test. Citizens visiting the Center will be given pamphlets and other materials from the spon soring agencies which will also refer them to medical personnel, if necessary, for further assistance. More than 100 professional and more than 150 non professional personnel will be available for the serecnings to be conducted from 8:30 until 3 p.m., according to Mrs. Charles Hamilton, executive director of the Council on Aging. Mrs. Hamilton said the screenings are offered free of charge to senior citizens 60 and older and that further information can be ob tained by contacting her office in Shelby. Mrs. Hamilton said that transportation will be provided to senior citizens from the Kings Mountain Depot Center and that some churches are also of fering transportation to and from the Center. Stations on counseling will also be set up after each citizen proceeds through the screening program, she said. The American Red Cross youth clow ns will provide enter tainment during the day.
