St. Phon* 739-2366 Board Meeting Today Kings Mountain District Board of Education will hear proposed changes in the ESEA Title 1 program and discuss a wide variety of other school sub jects at Thursday’s meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administrative Building. The meeting has been re scheduled early in the afternoon in order not to conflict with Ho ly Week and Maundy Thursday services. Students who participated recently in the Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C. will be recognized. The tentative agenda includes a request for continuation of support of the Amity Aide pro gram, a request from the Kings *' Mountain Tennis Association, a request from the North Carolina Symphony, a request for ap proval of budget transfers, reex amination of the new student transfer policy relative to item four, change of residence; recom mendations regarding personnel examination and action for ap peals regarding the pupil assign ment policy, request for transfers to and from the KM School District, introduction of a local bill regarding uniform paf date, information on cheerleader elec tions at KM Senior High, and proposed changes in the ESEA Title 1 program by Larry Allen Explorers Cop Award At Show Class Play Success ■ The Senior class presented “A Hillbilly Weddin"" last Thurs day, Friday, and Saturday nights in Barnes Auditorium. Mrs. Bet sy Wells, Drama instructor, directed the cast. Members at tended a cast party following the Saturday night performance. Students with a driver’s license who are interested in tak ing the classroom work for school bus driving should sign up in the office. Any student interested in be ing on the annual staff next year should see Joe Rountree in room 117. Sophomores and Juniors who wish to run for an SPO office, or a class office next year need to Bake-Off Champion Kings Mountain Medical Ex plorer Post 412 copped the blue ribbon at the annual Piedmont Council Scout Show Saturday at Cleveland County Fairgrounds. The young people led a CPR course of instruction and ad ministered free blood pressure checkuris to about 100 citizens during the event in which seven local members participated. Twenty groups exhibited in the event. It was the first time for the Kings Mountain club, which meets regularly at Kings Mountain Hospital, to take part. Myers Printing, Joe Speight of the Cleveland County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Dr. Sam Robinson and Kings Moun tain Hospital assisted the local chapter with supplies. Each citizen who passed through the blood pressure clinic was given a card with the date that his blood pressure clinic was given a card with the date that his blood pressure was checked. Rhonda Bolton, of the KM Hospital staff and the Explorer Post Advisor, accompanied the local group to Shelby. Par ticipating Explorers were Chub Cobb, Teresa Leonhart, Heather Crowley, Boo Robinson, club vice president, Daune Brazzell, Janet Blair, Susan Tessneer and Sandy Appling. Terry Conner, KMSHS senior and daughter of Troy and Jean Conner of Kings Mountain, is winner of the 12th annual But termilk Biscuit Bake-Off at Kings Mountain Senior High School. As the top winner. Miss Con ner will represent KMSHS in the county-wide contest to be held Tues., Apr. 28, at the Cleveland County Office Building. She received a $10 cash prize from Carolina Dairy and Yelton Mill ing Co., co-sponsors of the con test. Miss Conner has been a homemaking student for two years. Runner-up in the competition, in which 15 students par ticipated Tuesday, was Marti Bishop, a senior student, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McPherson and a first year home economics student. She received a $7 cash prize. Second runner-up was Lynn Cox, a junior student and a first year homemaking student. First place winners from KMSHS, Burns, Crest, and Shelby High Schools will par- ticipiate in the county-wide Bake- Off at which the winner will receive $100, the second place winner $25., and the third place winner $15. Contestants bake biscuits from their favorite recipe and us ing Yelton’s Best Flour and Carolina Dairy Golden Flake Buttermilk, both Cleveland County products. Judges for the local Bake-off were KMSHS Principal Bob McRae and KMSHS home economics instructor Betty Gamble. The winning recipe combined 3 cups Yelton’s Best Self-Rising Flour, 'A cup shortening, 1 cup buttermilk mixed with one teas poon yeast and one teaspoon sugar. Miss Conner cut in the shortening and poured in the buttermilk mixture. After mix ing, she kneaded six to eight times and baked for 12 minutes in 450 degree oven. sign up in the office. Voter registration for these elections began Wednesday in the com mons area during lunch. Students must register to vote. Seniors received caps, gowns, invitations, and other senior ac cessories from the Josten’s com pany Wednesday. Seniors completed Last Will and Testament forms for the Mountaineer staff Wednesday during homeroom. Juniors and sophomores registered for their next year’s classes Wednesday. Anyone who is interested in changing registra tion forms or did not register Wednesday should see Mrs. Carolyn MeWhirter as soon as possible. Interested seniors are planning a non-school sponsored trip to Six Flags over Georgia for May 8 and May 15. School buses will not be taken. Tickets are $12.95 at the gate, but with a group order of 25 or more, the tickets will be $10.95. Angie McKinney was selected as a state finalist for the North Carolina Miss National Teenager Pageant to be held at Meredith CoUege in Raleigh. Champions Contracting Com pany of Kings Mountain is spon soring her. Judging of the con testants will be based on contes tant essays, poise leadership, per sonality and appearance. The winner will attend the Miss Na tional Teenager contest to repre sent North Carolina. Jolanta Milewski presented a program for the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) members Monday. Members also purchased FCA patches and pins. Sophomores and Juniors who wish to audition for the KMSHS choir for next year should see. Gene Bumgardner for his ap proval. Students interested in the tutorial program for 1981-82 school year should see Miss Lavene for an application. Students will be dismissed Thursday at 1 HO for the Spring break. There will be no school Friday, April 17, Monday April 20, and Tuesday, April 21.
