Pag* 6A K1NGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thiirsday. lanuary 7. 1982 KM Wrestlers To Host Warriors In Key Match Kings Mountain High’s wrestlers grabbed a big lead early and went on to defeat South Point 37-27 Monday night at Belmont in a Southwestern 3-A Conference match. The Mountaineers are now 3-0 in the SWC and 4-0 overall. They travel to Burns tonight and return home Monday to host unbeaten and state-ranked East Gaston in a match that should decide the SWC champion. Action Monday will get underway at 7 p.m. with several preliminary bouts scheduled. Regular matches will begin at 7:30. Admission is only one dollar. East Gaston last week climbed into the 20th position in the Mat News state rankings, and Coach Doug Smith has one of his better teams this year. East Gaston and Kings Mountain Tinished 1-2 in the recent Gaston Invitational Tournament and are ranked 1-2 in the area rankings by the Gastonia Gazette. Teams Share Lead Jayvees From Pago 5-A First W'esleyan defeated First Baptist 56-50 last Tuesday to take over sole possession of first place in the Tuesday Night Church League basketball stan dings. The Wesleyans now sport a 3-0 record. First Baptist and East Gold Wesleyan are tied for se cond with 2-1 records, followed by El Bethel and David Baptist at 1-2 and First Presbyterian at 0-3. Jody Deaton scored 20 points to lead First Wesleyan and J.R. Scruggs hit 18 for First Baptist. In other games. East Gold edged El Bethel 41-35 and David Baptist defeated First Presbyterian 47-25. Kevin Wheeler scored 14 to pace the East Gold win and Bill Allbright scored 12 for El Bethel. Jim Chapman scored 15 for David Baptist and Hayne and Parks Neisler had nine points each for First Presbyterian. Bethel will face David Baptist and East Gold will play First Baptist. The Thursday Night League has been idle for the past two weeks'because of the holidays and will return to action on Thurs., Jan. 14. On next Tuesday night, begin ning at 6:30, First Presbyterian will battle First Wesleyan, El On Thurs., Jan. 14, beginning at 6:30, Central Methodist will play Carson Memorial, Macedonia Baptist will play Bethlehem Baptist and Resurrec tion Lutheran will battle Boyce Memorial A.R.P. The standings in the Thursday Night League include Boyce Memorial and Carson Memorial 2-0, Resurrection and Central Methodist 1-1 and Bethlehem and Macedonia 0-2. Tyrone Grier scored 17 points and Arnold Jordan scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Tuesday’s win. Larry Crocker had 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots and Mark Champion dished out five assists. The game started slow and it wasn’t until the 4:53 mark that the Mounties scored for a 2-0 lead. They went on to lead 10-7 at the quarter and built a 27-13 halftime lead. The KM offense stalled in the third period and Shelby stormed back to cut the margin to 33-29 after three periods.
