MAMIE TWITTY RILEY HILL - With the snow and ice slowly melting away after five hard days of cold and snow, we were more than glad to find the beaten path that led us to the House of God. The second Sunday being our first wor ship day for the new year, we found our posts of duty. Sunday School was car ried out in the usual way with Deacon W. J, Rogers as supt. TWITTY and Catherine Holden and Maxine Rogers serving as secretaries. These assistant girls need to be commended for the fine and intelligent way that they keep records accurate. A spiritual treat was in store for us as we sat in our adult class listening to the well discussed lesson by the president of Wake County Sunday School Conven tion, Hulon L. Morgan. Many strong points were emphasized. Mr. Morgan em phatically spoke when he said “that Christians are to be sincere watchmen over one another, be busy in seeking the lost and erring ones bringing them into the fold.” After God has given to each of us his divine spirit, we are to have the courage to carry on. We are not in position to deliver an effective message or do a good job in religious endeavors without the spirit resting upon us. The Holy Spirit causes a peculiar tym of power to- generate within and also gives us now hope in despondent conditions. We were admonish ed to do as Ezekiel, the Prophet, act and speak according to the dictates of the spirit. “God where the spirit leads, open your mouth and he will speak for you." At 11 worship hour was held with the senior choir singing accompanied by Mrs. Mary L. Holden at the piano. We are proud of the fact that our pianist, along with her sister, Mrs. Verna Lee Gregory of Richmond, Va., gave a musical recital at Friendship Baptist Church the first Sunday. These two ladies are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Dealous Jones. There are others in the family, who show musical ability in their home churches. Tlie supt. had all of the teaching staff to assemble and listen intently to words of wisdom from Mr. Morgan as he gave the installation address. Indeed, it was food for thought. We heartily thank him and invite him to come again with his daughter, Vemetta.i ■Re is the brother-in- law of our supt. He informed us that his mother-in-law, Mrs. Betsy E. Perry was doing quite well and sent greetings to the church. Rev. G. S. Stokes chose his text from Phillipians 1:13 and 14. His subject was The Christian Race. He said that in order to run successfully one must have a goal in mind and shake off those things that so easily beset us and eventually hold us back. We must look forward to Christ Jesus, lay aside hatred and malice and cultivate love. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this was a fitting message for the new year. Mrs. Maude Rogers is home again after visiting her family in Bridgeport. Conn. She gave helpful remarks in living a Christian life away from home as well as at home. Mrs. Arrie J. Rogers is a patient at Wake Memorial. Pray for the sick that God will be the healer of their bodies and spirit. Rev. M. L. Watkins spent the afternoon with R. L. Twit;;', who is still improving. pause. I now know that there is good in everything, I know that I really love something about you, and I believe it is the whole of you, to mention a few facts: your ability to stimulate me into clear thinking: you have made my mind broader and caused me to believe that I can still accomplish things. As I said that before, just to mention a few. If I knew it would never cause you harm in any way, I would say I would, caress you. Goodnight and may God bless you. Your loving friend, Emmett Smith Here is another poem by my “daughter." Sister Eva Lucas Perrv: I LOVE HIM BY EVA LUCAS PERRY He is very jealous over me. This I always plainly see: How I dare not grieve His heart, For He to me the best imparts. I esteem Him beyond all others. Even above my sisters and brothers; I cannot sleep without His care. To me He gives my rightful share. When the enemy hurts my soul, I to Him my woes unfold: He sustains me when I'm weak. He restores the joy 1 seek. I absorb His richest grace. When 1 can see His loving face; I'm convinced His love Is deep. His gifts are rare and also sweet. I have never shedded tears .Neither groped in shame and fear: Because of having really He sometimes meets me the garden, Wc commune and He grants me pardon: II I have feigned to admire another. Or cast a wistful eye towards a brother. I'm His and He's mine for sure. Knowing this I must stay pure: Setting my affections upon things on high, I know I am the apple of His eye. A Prince like this is worth my time. He proves His love, and I pledge mine: As time goes on our love doth bloom. I'll be His bride - He'll be my groom. He saw me first and loved me then, I found Him when I left off sin: I love Him now with all my heart. Nothing can occur to make us part.
