15 Makeup Solutions For Black Girls Judging by the number cf letters many black girls send to Glamour Magazine each month, they have trouble solving some ^rsistent beauty problems. Read Glamour’s Beauty editors answers to solve these special problems. Finding the right foundation is a problem that's getting easier to solve. In most cities very good lines of cosmetics made especially for black skins are available Yellow, ruddy, olive or gray undertones are the most common for black skins. For yellow undertones, a deep beige foundation is good. Ruddy tones also call for ^ige. Avoid anything with pink or peach in it. Olive and gray undertones need brightening so try a ruddy foundation, maybe with a bit of pink or peach. Many black girls also com plain of uneven skin tone. Instead of trying to even it out with a deeper foundation, consider using a soft but bright blusher on your cheeks to provide a focus of attention. If your skin is oily, you’ll probably find a waterbased foundation best. I have trouble finding lip colors for me is another frequently heard complaint. One reason is that your lips may have a lot of deep red pigment so when you actually try the lip color, it may not look at all as you imagined. If there is a tester handy, put a dab on your finger first, the apply to your lips. Another solution is lip- gloss. Most black girls look sensational with just a slick of clear gloss over lips or one with the barest hint of color plus gloss. If you want to wear the deep-toned lipsticks but find they look too dark, use a yellow undercoat or a flesh-colored lipstick base which will make the lip color go on closer to the tube color WHAT’S YOUR BAG? (Continued from P. 13) followed the scheme of a recent movie. However, the case in hand se«ns far more complicated than that of the simple lunatic fringe who are influenced by pornography, fictional myster ies and violent rhetoric. After all. Mark’s school principal in Emporia. KS does not hesitate to say that he was model student. Lydia Willis, his ex-girl friend in New Orleans sobbed, “He was just too nice and kind.” That was the consensus on him until his entrance into the Navy. Perhaps Mrs. Essex was not far off in charging that her son was the victim of harrass- ment and racist treatment by the Navy and society at large. Fall of 1972 more than suggested that when the racial top blew off the Navy with rioting on the U. S. aircraft carriers Kitty Hawk and Constellation and the oiler Hassayampa. The Navy, most lily-white of all the services, had fallen into a septic tank and came out smelling the part Bursting forth from the clinically white atmosphere of Emporia, KS., Essex apparent ly made the rude discovery that life is one big hassle and rat race for most minorities. He was awakened to the nightmare of black teenagers in Gary, IN. admiring and wanting to imitate the bloodthirsty black Mafia. He was shocked into the painful realization that four of every five murders in Detroit- and other ghetto-studded cities- are done by relatives, friends and neighbors emotionally dis turbed by their environment, imbued with self-hatred, and driven by pent-up rage that knows no release. Some people rise above the prejudices and frictions of life. Some remain passive and insensitive to them. Others, once sensitized. feel threatened, and, not seeing any options, become frustrated, depressed- dangerous. It is incumbent on each of us everywhere to help make options and solutions viable and available to ever>'- KITTY HAWK SEAMAN PLEADS GUILTY SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Twenty- year-old Airman Appren. FrankJin Rountree of Philadel phia has pleaded guilty to assault and rioting aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk last October Roundtree, who said he and other black crewmen had decided “to assault pass- ersby,” was sentenced to one month in the brig at hard labor, reduction to the lowest pay grade, and a bad conduct discharge Because of an earlier plea-bargaining session at which the guilty plea was agreed upon, Roundtree whose enlistment expired Dec. 14. had his sentence reduced to the two months he has already spent in the brig.
