Mesdames Isabell Ballance and Comfort Austin spent Thanksgiv ing Day at Ocracoke with their sister, Mrs. Eleanor Burrus. Mr. and Mrs. Stockton Midgett went to Norfolk (Monday. Mrs. Emaline Austin has re turned home after spending several weeks in Bee Branch, Arkansas, with her daughter, Mrs. Selina Leonard. Mrs. Beverly O’Neal of Norfolk spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny O’Neal. Mrs. Doris O’Neal went back to Norfolk with her. Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Quidley and family of Norfolk spent the week end with Mrs. Ida O’Neal. SINGSPIRATION SUNDAY The Fifth Sunday Singspiration for Dare charge was held at the Stumpy Point Methodist Church at 8 p.m. The Rev. G. M. Kelly leader. Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Gertrude Wise played several numbers on the I electric organ and piano together. The M. Y. F. group sang, ‘ Whis pering Hope.” An hour of music and song was enjoyed by the group despite the cold weather. SCOUT HONORS FOR SOME MANTEO TROOP MEMBERS Four members of Scout Troop 165 were advanced to the rank of Second Class in a Court of Honor held Sunday, Nov. 30th at The Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. Scouts receiving the Second Class badge were, Freddy Roush, Jimmy Mann, Ira Spencer and Johnny Gibbs. Each scout then presented hisr mother with a miniature pin of his rank. Several new members have join ed the troop during the past months. Robert Hultman and Nev in Wescott were transferred from the local Cub Scout Pack. Other new members are Craig Midgett from Manns Harbor, Harold Sal inger and Wayne Midgett of Man teo. Twelve members will leave Man teo Friday evening on their frst Fall camping trip under the lead ership of the Scoutmaster and Sen ior Patrol Leaders Butch Baum and Tommy Taylor. The troop goal is ten days and nights of camping each year. The Hike of the Month took place on Nov. 15th and featured the use of the compass for cross country hiking. Starting at the Fresh Pond the scouts crossed the Nags Head Woods to the old Sound Road, thence south to Jockey Ridge and back up the beach to their starting point, a distance of abuut eight miles. Scout hikers were Mark Basnight, Freddy Roush, Jimmy Mann, Ira Spencer and Johnny Garrison. REDSKINS SCORE VICTORIES OVER WEEKSVILLE TEAMS The Manteo High School basket ball teams opened up their current season last Tuesday night at the new Manteo gym with victories over both the Weeksville girls and boys’ teams. Sandra Dowdy led the Manteo girls to a 31-28 victory by scoring 17 points in a game that was close all the way. Weeksville had a one-point lead several times and also tied the score with a minute and a half to go. Several free throws and a basket gave Manteo a 5-point edge, which was cut to 3 just as the buzzer sounded. Elsie Hines was second high scorer for Manteo with 10 points. The Manteo boys might be strong contenders for the confer ence championship this year, as they had no difficulty in downing Weeksville 48-12. This is the same team, with the exception of for ward Ray Midgett, which had a good record last year and went to the semi-finals in the tourna ment. Hughes Tillett was high scorer with 16 points; Gary Meek ins was second with nine. This Friday night the Redskins will be put to their first real test when they play the Camden Rebels the teams will entertain Moyock, at the home court. Next Tuesday, BUXTON HOME CLUB DECEMBER MEETING Monday. December 8, at 8 p.m. in the Cape Hatteras School the Buxton Home Demonstration Club will be hosts to members and their guests at a real old fashioned Christmas party. Under a real Christmas tree gifts wrapped “His” and “Hers” will be displayed and later given out. Mrs. Fran Cullis, Home Agent, will demonstrate how to wrap and decorate gifts, and gitfs will be judged and a prize given. C., visited Mrs. Farrow’s sister, Mrs. Edgar Tolson, during the week end . Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fulcher and children, from Portsmouth, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Palmer and daughter from Alexandria, Va., visited Mrs. Delora Fulcher for the Thanksgiving holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Willis have returned to Oriental, after spend ing several weeks at their home here. Adrian Tolson was here for sev eral days recently visiting his sis ter, Mrs. Nellie Willis. Mr. and Mrs. John Lewark and Mrs. Francis Dickenson from Nor folk visited Mrs. D. H. Ransom Thanksgiving Day. Erlene Tandy, a student at East Carolina College and Dennit Ran som of N. C. State College were home for Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Jenson and children from Portsmouth, spent several days here with Mrs. Jenson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Crank. Ralph Twiddy, who is employed in Norfolk, is home for a week. Desmond Foster is home for a week with his family here. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Austin left Sunday for Philedalphia to" visijt their sons, Albert and Hy dous Austin. They were accom panied by Albert Austin Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Vance Miller, who had spent the week end home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Meads from Elizabeth City and their two daughters were here visiting Mrs. Mead’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jul ian Austin over the week end. Miss Lu Peters from Richmond was the guest of Erlene Tandy several days. Mr. and Mrs. William Peele and sons from Norfolk visited Mrs. Peele’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hobson Willis. Jack Filbrick arrived here this week after spending a week at his home in Portsmouth. He was ac companied back by his wife and son, who will stay here for Christ mas. Fred Peters and son from Rich mond, Va. and Francis Carter from Winston-Salem were here hunting during Thanksgiving week end. They were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. U. L. Rollinson. BUXTON METHODIST BAZAAR The women of the Buxton Meth odist Church and Sunday School have been working diligently on a bazaar to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday December 6th at the church. There will be handcrafts, dried flower arrangements, canned goods, potted plants, “white ele phant” packages, and bakery foods for sale. The proceeds from this ba zaar will be put in the building fund so it is hoped everyone will make plans to visit the bazaar for Christmas shopping. Coffee will be served while “folks”.are shopping. RECTOR-PERRY MARRIAGE PLANS ARE ANNOUNCED » Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Perry of Kitty Hawk announce the engage ment and approaching marriage of their daughter, Carol, to Norwood H.
