Page 7-THE NEWS-December, 1984 In And Around The JCC What*s Happening With Our Children’s Programs Winter Celebration This fall the programs for children have been fun for edl involved. The little ones have been en joying Creative Playgroup at the JCC Child Care Center. Meeting three days a week, they have participated in special celebrations and regular educational activities. Children, ages two, three and four, are learning about themselves and their world in Potpourri. In two hours, the children might learn about col ors of the rainbow, listen to a story, make kazoos out of cardboard and sing into them. Four and five-year-olds enrolled in Traveling Tykes, went on the city bus to visit the school bus garage, in spected downtown during its renovation, and spent time at the Nature Museum. The activity club members are planning monthly outings for Club 23 and Club 46. Second and third graders viewed the Muppet Show and went roller skating. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders started their year of events with a visit to a haunted house and plans for bowling, hiking and other group activities. These are some of the children’s programs the JCC offers. Come join the fun! Mini-Camp Nov. 5-7, twenty-two children, ages five to eleven, enjoyed the JCC’s “School’s Out, ‘J’s’ In” Mini-Camp. They participated in a number of fun activities, including: Visiting the Nature Museum and pla}dng on the Freedom Park playground; running an obstacle course and relay races; tumbling; learning and practicing yoga; playing board games; indoor swimming; and self-defense instruction. The campers enjoyed visits from mime artists who also made animals and fruit out of balloons; a city police officer who brought his police c£ir to show to the children; and a do cent from the Mint Museum who involved the children in a slide presentation, “What Is Art?”. Judging from the smiles and enthusiastic participation everyone, including the four staff people, had a wonderful experience with their new and old friends. They are looking forward to the JCC “Winter Mini-Camp” at the end of December. Creative Playgroup's Costume Party. (L. to r.) Ryan Laahua, Nir SheffI, Adam Linderman, Chris Coppola, Sara Hilchie.
