The Charlotte Jewish News -January 2014 - Page 3 i y Main Event Kicks Off the 2014 Annual Campaign in Style Event co-chairs Amy Augustine and Alison Lemer welcomed over 600 people to The 2014 Main Event featuring Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, world-renowned author, broadcaster, and relationship expert. Amy, Alison, and six members of our community spoke from the heart as they shared personal stories of the impact Federation and its beneficiary agencies have had on their lives. Rabbi Shmuley Boteach immediately cap tured the audience as he spoke impressively about “Bringing Shalom into Your Flome” - family relation ships, the bonds between married couples, and what men and women want. Audience members were not only entertained but given food for thought about how to improve their own relationships. The Main Event was the official kick-off for the 2014 Annual Campaign. Donors who pledged at the event made a world of difference for the Campaign which benefits Jews in need at home in Charlotte, in Israel, and in over 70 countries around the world. The audience responded generously and pledged over $200,000 toward Federation’s 2014 Campaign goal of $3,500,000. “The Charlotte Jewish community has been blessed with great leadership - two of those lead ers, Lori and Eric Skint, are raising the bar and by ex ample showing us all how to Live Generously. Tonight, Lori and Eric are going to match all new and increased gifts up to $25,000,” said Alison Lemer at the Main Event. Compassionate donors responded enthusiasti cally and met the generous one-time $25,000 Main Event matching gift. And let us not forget our Friends of Shmuley (listed below) who through their generosity enabled the Fed eration to bring a speaker to our community whose words will stay in our thoughts for years to come. The 2014 Campaign was kick-started not only by The Main Event, but also by the extraordinary corner stone gift of Leon and Sandra Levine in combination with an exciting challenge and matching gift. A $35,000 matching gift for new, increased and recov ered gifts of two years or more will offer incentive to our donors, while The Levine Challenge of $50,000 will take us over the top as soon as we are within range of meeting the goal. We hope each member of our Jew ish community will respond to the opportunity pro vided by Sandra and Leon Levine to benefit our entire community. Every new and increased dollar pledged for 2014 will enable the Federation to have a greater impact than ever before.^ Photos courtesy ArtShots Photography, ArtShots- Photo.com.
