And as the season terminates, they have a lot to be proud of. The Belles, now 9-12, are about to complete an injury- plagued season with the N.C. Invitational Tournament Feb. 17-19 and Wesleyan College Tournament Feb. 24-25. Luckily, the Belles will have their star point guard, Dain Magodo, back into action after having a leave of absence in the second half of the season. The Belles have a chance to balance outtheirrecord. Hopefully, they will utilize their home-court ad vantage. Coach Joyce Spruill has aposi- Uve outlook on the tournaments, but stressed her troop is lacking numbers. “Like last year, we have a lack of player commitment,” Spruill said. With a lost against cross-town rivals, Greensboro College, 43- 72, the Belles clinched a victory against Baruch College, 58-53. Things were looking bright for the Belles until Pam Dabbs, Averett College’s all-time lead ing scorer, came in and rained on their parade. Averett defeated the Belles in the waning minutes of the game, 70-66. In the most anticipated game of the year, the Spelmanites of Spelman College came to Goode Gymnasium and "Rocked the Belles," 61-41. In a sardine- packed gym, the Belles came out hot, but allowed Spelman to have a 12-point halftime advantage. Malika Stewart, of Spehnan, hit nothing but net, with 17 points, thrashing the BeUes’ defense. Bennett hoopsters got sweet re venge against Sweetbriar College with a 71-33 victory Feb. 7. Sophomore Leticia Jolly lead the team with 22. Newcomer Anna Mahaka, of Zimbabwe, followed with 21. The Belles’ hardwood season is coming to an end. With a team full of underclasswomen, the Belles should have successful sea sons in the future. m.
