THIRD MUSIC FESTIVAL The outstanding musical event in the South this summer will again be the Brevard Music Festival. Held each year amid the natural beauties of West ern North Carolina, the Festival offers a rare combination; a vacation in the mountains together with the finest in music. The Festival is presented by the Brevard Music Festival Association under the auspices of the Brevard Music Foundation, both of which are non profit civic organizations. The aim of the Asso ciation is to present each summer a series of con certs of superior merit. In addition to the Festival, the Foundation also sponsors the Transylvania Music Camp devoted to instilling an interest and love of music in the youth of our country. Two Festivals have already been presented, bringing unsolicited and unstinted praise from both the public and the press. The response has been so encouraging that it has been necessary to enlarge our auditorium to accommodate more comfortably the audience which we will have this year. James Christian Pfohl, brilliant young North Carolinian, is Music Director of the Festival, Conductor of the Festival Symphony Orches tra, and a Trustee of the Brevard Music Foundation. He is widely known for his work as Director of Music at Davidson College. Tran sylvania Music Camp was founded by Mr. Pfohl and has won national acclaim under his leadership. Mr. Pfohl will be ably assisted by Norman Lamb as Assistant Con ductor of the Festival Orchestra. 4
