EMPLOYEE HAS INTERESTING HOBBY ELASTIC CUTTER DEVELOPED Vi ' t John Edd Cummings transmits and receives messages in his radio shack. He has his short wave set set up in his home for emergency communications. A Fir st Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, Cummings first became inter ested in the work of the CAP in 1951. At present, he is Supply Officer of his Squadron. Since much of the work of the CAP consists of search and rescue Work, John Edd was on duty with his em ergency communications a great deal during the past summer when the hur ricanes were lashing the North Carolina coast. Members of the CAP spend one night each week training new cadets for this type of work. Another phase of CAP service is searching for crashedplanes. Or aiding planes in distress. Cummings, in addition to his CAP Work, is a member of the Kernersville Exchange Club. He is employed in the Finishing Department of Plant #4. His rnother, Dorothy Cummings, was re tired at Plant #4 due to physical dis- 3-bility. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Kindness is the oil that takes the friction out of life. - 5 Neal Pierce and Leonard Honey cutt, both of the Machine Shop, install and adjust the elastic cutting machine which Pierce made in the Shop. The new cutter doubles the cutting capacity of the old type cutter, which was also made in our Machine Shop. Earlier this year. Pierce was asked to devise a faster and more efficient cutter. One of the difficulties in cutting the elastic is getting the elastic to feed uniformly to the cutter blade. The ten sion created by pulling the elastic off the spool would cause the elastic to stretch, giving shorter lengths. The new cutter designed by Pierce over comes the stretch problem. Pierce's cutter feeds two strands of elastic simultaneously to the cutter blade, doubling the cutting capacity. * * >i * * 3(= NOTICE Please turn in to your AMCO re porter all pictures of June graduates for publication in the AMCO NEWS not later than June 6, 1956.
