18 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - MAY 1. 2002 Career Day attracts 1000 PHOTOS: DANA BRADFORD By CYNTHIA WENDELL and DANA BRADFORD According to Lori Waller, Coordinator of Cooperative Education/ Job Referral and organizer of the Job Fair, % 1,000 students and visitors attended the 12‘^ annual Career Day Job Fair on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Wayne Learning Center Atrium. Anne Millington, Director of Cooperative Programs/ Cooperative Education/ Job Referral, with Wayne Community College’s Cooperative Education Department and Ollie Foster, Career Focus Manager from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Family Support Center, hosted the free event, which was open to the public. The Foundation of Wayne Community College has sponsored the Career Day Job Fair for the community since 1990. According to Waller, the purpose of the job fair is to inform students in technical and vocational programs of job opportunities. Representatives from businesses and industries shared information about employment needs and criteria for employment with students, military personnel, and the public. Participants have the opportunity to meet informally with employers in order to ask questions, to leave resumes, and to set up interviews. Representatives included healthcare, financing, education, automotive, law enforcement, manufacturing, aviation, human services, food processing, agribusiness, retail sales, military, mechanical, administrative, clerical, accounting, computers, and state and local government. ENG 114 student Jennifer Hood, whose class attended the Job Fair, said, “ To my surprise there were a lot of available positions for a registered nurse but no hospital or clinic will hire a medical assistant. I have been thinking about continuing my education to receive my associate in nursing degree, -and this experience made up my mind.” 'Renaissance' reception honors writers, artists By BARRY LEWIS and REGNELLE SWINSON On Wednesday, May 1, the editors of Renaissance, WCC’s writers’ and artists’ magazine, held a reception in the Dining Hall to honor students whose works were published in the 2002 issue of the magazine.
