NORTH CAROLINA, ViKRCE, 19^h Page 7 Spring Not Affecting Elementory Grades' Evidently the elementary grades have been inoculat ed against apathy, or spring fever, so prevalent at. this season of the year, for more projects seem to be under way this month than any month before. Desire for travel and ad venture come true through reading for MISS GLEE EAT- MON‘3 class. Their reading book, IF I IfERE GOING, givgs them an opportunity to visit a new country each day. Besides their reading MISS EATMON'S third graders are still continuing the tree pro ject they began in the fall. Other studies are centered mostly around mul tiplication tables, dicta tion, and spelling bees, which they have once a week, MRS. R. G. L. EDWARDS' eighth graders are making wooden plaques of animals, birds, flowers, and geo metric designs this month. Besides their regular studies MRS. HARVEY EVANS* seventh graders are making PILGRIM and PURITAN cut outs, The eighth graders are reading poems and il lustrating them. MRS. RACHEL PASCHALL'S fourth graders have been visiting FRANCE in their geography. To help in the study, they have learned French phrases and songs. They are also studying the teeth and making booklets. The story book characters of THE FRIEIDLY VILLAGE will become a reality with MRS. RUDOLPH GLOVER'S second graders when ‘they make paper dolls to repre sent them. Lator, their plans are to make a freize of the great plains of Texas, which one of the characters visited. MRS. FLLRABELLE BYNUM'S first graders are learning songs and poems and read ing stories about birds this month, MRS. JIM UNDERVJDCD'S / sixth graders have become regular globe trotters. In their reading they have visited AFRICA, STJITZER- LAND, CHINA, JAPAN, and KOREA, Several students - have painted and labeled maps of these places. The sixth graders' regular art theme has been the daffo dil, one of the first flow ers of spring. They have drawn pictures of the flow er and learned songs and poems that concern it. In their CITIZENSHIP CLUB four girls have written original plays. These were Linda Stallings, Connie Lamm, Peggy Eatmon, and Janet Weaver. Janet's, as the toacher expressed it, was really "tops". Jrs, Nome M^jscots Mascots for the junior class for the and '55 school years were recently selected by secret ballot ing during home room, SUSAN BRANTLEY, daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Cecil Brantley, and JAMES EROl/N, JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Bro^im, were the two contestants receiving the highest vote of all the proposed candidates* By Carolyn Finch The persons that do not push or break in line while going to lunch. The girls' basketball team. All students that received singular honors during the visit of the President of Turkey and his officials. All students that were so co-operative in helping clean the buildings and grounds for the President's visit. From one who cares so very much. And hopes it won't be long 'til you. Are feeling just as good as new. And wishing and wishing that starting today, You'll get better and better *til you're okay. The boys' basketball team. The students that stay quiet while changing classes. The ijth and 5th grades for being present every day this past month. Honor roll students.
