PAGE 8 -- THE GRYPHON, THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 1978 Insurance Policies Abolished An automobile insurance classification plan has abolished discrimination against age and sex. The plan went into effect Dec. 1. 1977. Four basic classifications are under the new system: plea sure use, transportation use to and from work (under 10 miles and over 10 miles), business and farm use. All drivers will be rated the same regardless of age for liability insurance. Comprehen sive coverage will be based on the driver’s age and driving record; even though this didn’t affect it before. Collision in surance will be determined under the four basic classifica tions. “Any operators licensed less than two years will pay one point for a higher premium than operators licensed over two years,” said Mrs. Tommie Ezzell of Nationwide Insurance. Young drivers will not be penalized because of age; now all minor moving violations will count one point against insur ance. All traffic violations will increase one point. The maxi mum points now will be 12. KEEP UMIT Most American motorists want to keep the national speed limit at 55 miles per hour, the Transportation De partment says, citing nine surveys conducted by local, state and national organiza tions.
