‘Superbowl Tuesday’ sparks excitement on campus by Casey Bass On Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 1986, the intramural teams from third and fourth Barefoot stepped onto the field for Meredith’s fourth annual Superbowl. It was an excidng afternoon for everyone as fourth Barefoot seized the title of Super- bowl champions with a 24-6 final score. The afternoon started off with a picnic at 4:30 p.m., with music from the group PRISM (a top 40 group of Washington, D.C.). At approximately 5:30 the starting lineups were announced and the game went underway. Half-time festivities included a lip-sync by a group of intramural representatives of the “The Superbowl Shuffle”, and music from Meredith’s own BATHTUB RING. Second half found Kimberly Hairel* son’s third Barefoot in a tight spot as Con* nie Wagner led Fourth ^refoot to their victory. After the winners received their awards, Tom Suiter did a live sports broadcast for WRAL-TV 5 ftx)m the courtyard. Tom interviewed Intramural Director Lisa Ste wart who presented him with a Meredith sweatshirt and gave him the title of “honorary angel”. Supert^wl four was a great success, but it could not have happened without the help of our two officials. Dr. Broos, and Dr. Shamblee. A very special thanks to them for their help in Tuesday’s game. Also, a very special thanks to the BATHTUB RING for their halftime entertainment Why is our ‘Holiday Dance' now a ‘Senni- Formal?’ This is a question that many of you have asked since the return of fall semester. This answer is not a simple one such as, “MEA just decided that it would be better to have it in Janua^ rather than November.” We realize that it is not a good idea to have two major dances in one semester, but it is better than not having one at all. Toward the end of each spring semester the newly elected chairpersons for the hol iday dance call and reserve the Kerr Scott Building for the dance. May is the earliest that the Kerr Scott Building can be reserved due to the fact that the the fairgrounds people do not like to book that far in advance. That has been the rule for several years. We called to book the building and much to our surprise the building had been reserved for every weekend in November for the next two years. The Civic Center, which was also unavailable, is the only other building in Raleigh that will accomodate a dance this large. We began to grab for dates because we had a band and nowhere for them to per form! We finally compromised with the fairgrounds only to fmd that the fu^t date available that would allow time to prepare was January 31,1987. We are probably more disappointed than any of you because all of our plans deteriorated right before our eyes. Now, we do have a band and a place for them to perform.
