The Rotarians enjoyed a very informative presentation by Mr. J. Ed Kirk, Public Affairs 'Representative of the Weyerhaeuser Regional OfHce. Kirk’s presentation was highlighted by a Southern Forestry Association film entitled “The South’s Amazing Forest.” The narrator of the film gave much information on the progress that has been made in the wood industry during the past fifty years. Since the “Good 01’ Days” when desolation of the forest was the norm, the wood products industry has corrected some of its big errors through planned planting and cutting. Through the years due to the efforts of groups such as the New Deal’s CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), forestry experts, research ers, and conscientious wood companies, such as Weyerhaeuser, the South’s forest land has been turned into productive farms of timber. After the film, Mr. Kirk answered informal questions the Rotarians had about types of trees to plant and the tree farms of the Weyerhaeuser Company. A delicious meal of country style steak, green beans, rice with gravy, iced tea, and chocolate cake topped with coconut, prepared by Vera’s Diner, was enjoyed by the members. The Rotary Club is a service club that meets each Thursday night in the banquet room of Vera’s Diner in Morris Plaza at seven o’clock. Rotarians enjoy a fine evening meal, an informative program and the fellowship with other businessmen each week.
