!’ ‘OS*? .'iflriMrtpiM r Pag* 4 West Craven Highlights May 22,1980 O'.'i Med Center staff attends conference Local couple travels in Europe George Roberts, Joyce Wynn and Sarah Adcox of the Vanceboro Medical Center attended the Rural Health Center Spring Conference at the Velvet Cloak Inn in Raleigh last Friday and Saturday. The main topic of the conference was emergency medicine in an outpatient setting. Roberts comment ed that doctors from the emergency room and staff members from the Emer gency Medicine Office delivered a series of very interesting lectures. He explained that the confer ence was primarily a continuing education emphasis. During the course of the seminar, CPR was reviewed. Joyce Wynn was certified in CPR at the conference. Roberts added that attending seminars of this type are just one of the ways the Vanceboro Medical Center tries to keep abreast of new developments in the medical field so as to better serve the community. By Ruby Lilly Special to the Highlights Although they said they had a great time, the “green, green grass of home” certainly looked good to Curtis and Emma Witherington when they touched down after two weeks in Europe. The couple reside in the Epworth Community. Several friends were on hand to give the Wither- ingtons a big send off from the new Kinston Terminal. After a short flight to Atlanta, the Witheringtons boarded a non-stop Delta Airlines flight to Frank furt Germany where they were met by their daughter Eleanor, their son-in-law Lt. Col. John Dean and their grandson David. Lt. Col. Dean is stationed at Bad Kruez- nech, Germany with the 8th Infantry Division of the U. S. Army. While visiting the Deans, the Witheringtons were visited by Mrs. Withering- ton’s nephew, Dr. Duncan Harviel, a surgeon in nearby Nurenburg. One of the most exciting trips during their stay was a boat cruise down the Rhine River. On the cruise they saw castles dating back into the early llOO’s AD and before. The Witheringtons visited the Olymnpic Stadium and Tower in Munich. They also toured Hamburg and Berlin. Another impres sive sight was Hitter’s famed Eagle’s Nest. Dachau was a chilling reminder of Hitter’s brutality. The Withering- ton’s learned that 31,951 people were reported murdered there between 1933 and 1945. While in Austria, the Witheringtons enjoyed seeing some of the locations for the filming of “The Sound of Music” in Salzburg. They visited Switzerland and France, touring the famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. An interesting dif ference in Germany from the United States w fX closing of the shops from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. One of the most impres sive sights to the Wither ingtons were the beautiful cathedral of Central Europe. N. C. 244-0508 The C.W.F. of the Vanceboro Christian Church met on Wednesday night. May 14, 1980 in the Fellow-Ship Hall of the church. Mrs. Jill Campbell president, welcomed everyone and turned the worship and program over to Mrs. Betty Rose Crawford. The Scripture was taken from Luke 12th chapter. The program was entitled “Hands of Christ,”. She pointed out that the human hand is a wonderful part of the body, consider the hands of the doctor, the artist, .some hands are lifted in prayer each day. Jesus’ hands were hands to bless. Our prayer could be “use our Hands Lord.” How can we fail if our hands are dedicated to God’s Ser vice?” There was a prayer after the offering. The Daily Bible readers and books read were reported on. The treasurer reported that some donations toward the group’s project had been received. The group voted to pay the expenses for one person to attend the M. R. Camp for one week at Camp Caroline this summer. The nominating chair man, Mrs. Nell^'Vll, presented the fonEt^ng slate of officers for approval. The group accepted the nomination. The following are to be installed in June. Presi dent - Mrs. Betty Rose Crawford, Vice-President- Mrs. Mamie Midgett, Secretary & Publicity chairman - Mrs. Etheleene Butler, treasurer - Mrs. Elaine Moore, Worship - Mrs. Linda Chesson, Service - Mrs. Doris White, Mrs. Ida Peal Buck, Mrs. Virginia Johnson and Mrs. Bessie Williams, Stamp Chairman - Mrs. Verona Lancaster. The group closed with the C.W.F. benediction in unison. Hostess were Mrs. Erma Moore, Mrs. Robbie Moore. Mrs. Jerry Campbell. They served home-made cake and ice cream.
