' °n® of th« principal projects of the Pores Knob club •was the erection of the community house shown here. CEMETERY, -PROJECTS The ?ores Knob community has felt good effects of Home Demonstration work since the organization of its club in 1989. From the twelve members that ^organized this club we still have six of them who have been a real foundation through the ten years of the club's activities. We would say that Mrs. B. M. Broyhill it our community Home Demonstration club mother since it was she who made the first efforts to get a club organized and bring Home Demonstration work into our community.' She served as our first president for i term of two years and has been at the hehn during all our projects and work. Mrs. P. M. Lowe and Mrs. C. M. Ashley have done their part in keeping attendance up as they have not missed a club meeting in eight and and six years, respectively. We now have thirty-three members, who can be depended on to carry up their corner, at any time. Mrs. M. B. Lowe is our present president. The first and most important effects of our Home Demonstration work has been in the individual homes of its members as the results of the helpfijl demonstrations and information given by our agents and teachers, especi ■ — ally ia meal planning food preserving, sewing and home management. The leadership in supplying wholesome and supervised recreation for the children and yeung folks has been very important for the ijiorals of the community. The Community projects have really proved their worth. Humc who remember the condition of Walnut GroVe cemetery from 1944 back, may visit it now and say, "Hats off to an organization that hip the stability to turn as large a plot of briars, vines, and broomsage into the beautiful place that it now is in its smooth carpet of green grass," for that is a result of the efforts of our club organisation as its community project from 1043-46. In 1946 we took aa^our major project the starting of a community house for 1 ' the use of our peogle and w< have worked hard and steady 01 this ever since. Now we have i nice three-room house, with pore! and two cloak rooms, painted 01 the outside, walla and floor fin ished on the inside, shrubber set, and furnished with 102 chairs piancr, tables, stoves, and dishes We hope to add screens, blinds kitchen cabinets and lirtoleun soon. In raisinf the 'funds' fo: this project we have also provid ed the community with- iMcmm recreation and promoted fellow ship and team work. We use 'our community bous< often, holding all our club meet ings, recreational meetings, bene fits, and business meetings there Th& fruit growers find it eon venient for their schools and get to-gethers. The children anc young people find it ah ideal to hear the folks sty « they enter the door, "When do we eat?" or to hear a «mall child ■ay, "ISn going to the 'munntty* house to eat." Nothing promotes fellowship like eating, working, and playing ^toMther and We do I )ioua€ and through the sponsorship of our Home Demonstration club, mm it has always been very generous in supplying tempting refreshments for all oar gatherings.
