It simply means that if you’re an average earner, you've worked from January 1st thru May 10th.. .4 and one third months just to pay taxes. May 11th was the first day on which you worked for yourself. Trouble is, Tax Freedom Day gets later each year. In 1930, Americans worked only from January first till February 13th to pay their taxes. In 1940, Tax Freedom Day fell on March Sth. In 1960, on April 18th. In 1980, on May 11th. We think this ever-greater control of our money by government has gone far enough. And we may not be alone. Don't be surprised if, come November, for the first time in 50 years. Americans elect politicans who will make sure Tax Freedom Day will arrive sooner in future years than it has in 1980. — WRAL-TV Editorial MULLIGATAWNY OR MULLIGAN STEW? What with inflation and all, spouse Bory can’t bring herself to toss out any leftovers, especially soups. Accordingly, on her luncheon bridge day out, I’m apt to be left with a cup of mushpytomaroom or a bowl of vejocrabeenatable or, after a hot spell, some vishysconsotatosoise.
