Youth Grantmakers give generously to projects I SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Winston-Salem Foundation's Youth Grantmakers in Action (YGA) announced their 2012 youth grant recipi ents at their annual grant celebration on April 25 at the Delta Fine Arts Center. Four grants totaling $2,005 were made to positive projects that will help the youth of Forsyth County come together to make a difference in our community. Health Occupations Students of America received $400 to make quilts for youth at Victory Junction; The Mount Tabor High School Key Club received $700 to purchase books to read to youth at Cook Elementary School; P.E.A.C.E. Academy of Winston-Salem received $430 to provide opportunities for youth to share stories and feelings about bullying, harassment and youth violence; and the Winston-Salem Youth Council received $475 to make gift baskets for families moving into new Habitat for Humanity houses. w A. V Youth Grantmakers in Action is a diverse group of youth ages 15-18 from all over Forsyth County who want to gain leadership experience, represent the youth of the community and grant money to youth-led community projects that will have a positive impact on the community. A program of The Winston-Salem Foundation, YGA was formed in 2005 from the vision of Dr. Nathaniel Irvin and the financial support of Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. Journalism program alums reunite SPECIAL. IU IHE LHKmNH-Lh Winston-Salem's Reynita McMillan attended the first annual Chuck Stone Diversity Reunion on May 4 at the Watts Alumni Building on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill. All of the reunion attendees attended the UNC Chuck Stone Stone Diversity Program as high school journalism stu dents. The program is named esteemed uflL' joumalfsm professor. During the program, high school students stay on the UNC campus for a week during the summer and take journalism classes on sub ^yjlUili. editing ^and pwtography. In the next few weeks, stakeholders identified by the NC DOT will be receiving ballots to allow for voting for/against noise barrier construction as well as on the design options.
