MIXED COURT AUGUST 19 LIST OF JURORS CALLED BY BOARD OF COUNTY COM MISSIONERS TENTATIVE TAX RATE REMAINS AT 1 $1.63 OTHER TRANSAC TIONS AT MONDAY'S MEET-| ING OF COUNTY FATHERS- The Board of County Commis sioners in session here Monday fixed the tentative tax rate for the ensuing year same as last year, to-wit, $1.63. The Board, composed of H. L. Gibson, chairman; H- H. Brown and Harvey Johnson, passed on a number of 'claims, and trans acted other routine business. A jury was called by the Board to serve at the Superior Court term beginning Monday, August 19. This will be a mixed term for the trial of both criminal and civfl actions. "SAPS AT SEA" Stan Laurel —Oliver Hardy (This show 15c and 30c ) THE DANBURY REPORTER Joe Fulp of Walnut Cove is Instantly Killed By His Truck (Martinsville, Va.) Joseph W. Fuip, 28, of Walnut Cove, was instantly killed here about noon Tuesday when his truck went over a 75-foot em bankment following a collision with a truck from Roanoke, Va., on the highway. Rudy Tatum, 13, of Walnut Cove, riding in the cab of thj truck with Fulp, escaped injury i when he was thrown clear of thj machine after the collision The driver of the other truck, I whose identity was not learned, 1 also escaped injury. Fulp, with Tatum as a passen ger, left Walnut Cove about 9:30 o'clock with a load of veneer bound for Roanoke. He was op-' erating a truck owned by the Walnut Cove Veneering Corpora tion. Witnesses said Fulp's truck left the highway and rolled down the 75-foot embankment. Fulp was unable to escape from the cab and the veneer became loosened j from the truck and buriM the! machine's cab. Fulp was crush ed to death. The accident occurred about two miles north of Rocky Mount. Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Opal Bell of Mayo-1 dan, his mother, Mrs Grace Fulp of Walnut Cove, five sisters, Mri. Jones Morgan and Mrs. L. O- Williams of Walnut Cove; Mrs. Howard Fulp and Mrs- Oscar Greer of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. R. G. Hampton of Germanton, Route 1; and two brothers, Ira Fulp of Walnut Cove and Fulp of Walnut Cove, Route 1- The funeral will be held Thurs day afternoon at 3 o'clock at Fulp Moravian Church near Walnut Cove. Burial will be in the church graveyard. Union Missionary Society Meets (Reported.) The Union Missionary Society met on Monday evennig, August 5, at the home of Mrs- H. M. Joyce, with Mrs. Joyce as hostesa. With the president, Mrs. N- E. Wall, presiding, the meeting open ed with reading of the 67th Psalm for the devotional followed with prayer by Mrs. J. s. Taylor- The stecretary's and treasurer's reports were read and approved. "The Ministry of Womer." is the study book chosen for next gear's study, and Mrs- R. R. Ki;.y and Mrs. Dallas Kirby wer> ;e --lected to review the firs I two chapters for the September met ing which will meet with Mrs. G. H- Alford on Monday evenrng, September 2. Reid Morefield, planter, who re sides just south of town, harvest- J ed 210 bushels of wheat from 7 1-2 acres- Mr. Morefield is also a fine tobacco grower. Dr. Isaac A- Booe made a bus iness trip to Winston-Salem Fri day. Mr- and Mrs. Thomas F. Baker of near High Point, formerly of King, spent Friday with relatives here. Walter D. Boyles of Birming ham, Ala., is spending a few days here the guest of Mr. and Mrs- C. V. Kiser. A party of twenty five King people left Saturday for Carolina Beach where they will spend a week on vacation. Ollie L. Pulliam of Winston- Salem visited relatives here Sat i urday.
