Area Deaths, Funeral Services Morris Lambert Funeral services will be held this morning at 10 a.m. for Morris Lambert of Mars Hill who died July SS in his home at the age of M. Services will be held in the chapel of the Capps Funeral Home in Mars HU1. The Rev. Garland Vance will officiate. Burial will be conducted tomorrow at Quantico Na tional Cemetery in Quantico, Va. A native of Kashnuff, Russia, Mr Lambert resided in the United States for the past 81 years and in Mars Hill for the past year. A veteran of the U.S. Army in World War I, he was a retired employee of the American News Co. Mr. Lambert is survived by his wife, Lottie M. Lambert; three daughters, Mrs. Johnny Butler of Woodbridge, Va., Betty Peakham of Rockville, Md. and Kathy Vance of Mars Hill; a son, Bobby Tindall of Waldorf, Md.; 12 grand children and a great grandson. Vista Fender Funeral services will be held this afternoon for Vista Boone Fender of Weaverville who died Monday in an Asheville hospital at the age of 69. Services will be held in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ebb Jenkins and Joe Rice officiating. Burial will be conducted in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late D.C. and Ammie Blanken ship Boone. Mrs. Fender was a member of the Grapevine BAptist Church and a retired school teacher. She taught school in California and Madison and Buncombe Coun ty She is survived by her hus band, Dewey Fender; two daughters, Wilma Cheek of Weaverville and Maxine Palen of College Park, Ga.; . 7T~" - "f five sisters, Virgie West and Lola WUde of Marshall, Leslie Metcalf of Asheville, Deckie Mom of New Jersey and Ava Payne of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Wiley Boone of Mars Hill and D.C. Boone of Weaverville; five grand children and two great grandchldren. John Smith Funeral services will be held this afternoon for John Calvin Smith of Asheville who died Monday at his home at the age of 57. Services will be held in the Bull Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Orlando Hawkins officiating. Burial will be conducted in the church cemetery. A native of Madison County and a Buncombe County resi dent fo rthe past four years, he was a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle Fox Smith. He is survived by five sisters, Margaret Metcalf of Weaverville, Ella Mae Hughes of Wyoming, Estoy McAllister of Greenville, S.C., Beulah DeBruhl of Mars Hill and Hilda Metcalf of Asheville; and six brothers, George Smith of Flag Pond, Bon and Don Smith of Asheville, Hobart Smith of Marshall, Bud Smith of Mars Hill and Hal Snvth of Weaverville. Matilda Holcombe Funeral services were held Tuesday for Matilda H. Holcombe of Mars Hill who died Saturday at the age of 90. Services were held in the chapel of the Capp6 Funeral Home in Mars Hill with the Revs. Richard Price and Har rell Wood officiating. Burial was conducted in the Mars Hill Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Mialas M. and Elzie Holcombe. She was also the widow of Jake G. Holcombe, who died in 1945. Mrs. Holcombe was a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church and the Vance Chapter of the Eastern Star. Sht la sons, Willard Gay of Travene City, JOhn Hoi comb? of bridge, Va. Charles Finley Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Charles Ray Finley of Rt. 3, Mars Hill who died July 17 in Oklahoma City, Ok la. from injuries sus tained in a trucking accident. Services were held in the Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Ulis Suggs and Roy Waldroup officiating. Burial was conducted in the church cemetery. A native of Madison County, he lived in Ecorse, Mich, for 17 years before returning to Madison County last year. Mr. Finley was a truck driver for Wright Motor Lines in Asheville. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the River Rouge Masonic Lodge No. 511 AF and AM. Burial was sonducted in the church cemetery. , A native of Buncombe Coun ty, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Lillian Stroupe Arrowood. She operated the L. Arrowood Draperies shop on Wall Street in Asheville for many years before her retirement in 1977. Miss Arrowood is survived by her sister, Ruth Shephard of Weaverville, and a brother, Fern Arrowood, also of Weaverville. Cox Larceny TriaJ 1 ? Superi Felonious larceny charges against Marshall police chief Herschel F . Cox will be beard in Buncombe County Superior Court. Cox is charged with stealing 9MS.50 from an Asheville hotel while employed as a security guard prior to his appointment as Marshall chief of police. The charge was sent on to the Superior Court July 17 following a probable cause hearing in Buncombe County District Court. Cox was arrested on July 2, three days prior to his appoint ment as police chief. A July 8 swearing-in ceremony was cancelled when town officials learned of the arrest. Johnson Hearing Set For Friday A probable cause hearing for Richard Johnson of Hot Springs has been scheduled for Friday in Madison County District Court. Judge Phillip Ginn will conduct the hearing. Johnson is charged with murdering his five-year oid daughter, Joyce Johnson. Johnson will be represented by Marshall attorney A.E. Leake.
