Thursday, May 2, 1940 BOONVILLE Mrs. Cornelia Burch, aged Boonvilte lady, has returned from Chatham hospital where she was a patient for several days. Mrs. Henry Reece has also returned from the Elkin hospital. Dr. T. W. Shore and his sen, Allan, attended the field trials held at Galax Saturday. Dr. Shore owns a puppy that placed first in the trials. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Reece, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Angell, and Mr. and Mrs. Romie Johnson were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Stinson. Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Stinson and son, Charlie, who have been visiting relatives here and in sur rounding communities for the past two weeks, left Saturday morning for their home in Simi, Calif. Mr. Ray Koon, of Mountain Park, visited friends here Sun day afternoon. Bernard Mock, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Mock, who is a student at State College, spent the week end at home. Mr. Albert Martin made a bus iness trip to Raleigh Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Marler, of Smith town, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Boots Amburn. Rev. and Mrs. E. G. Miss Wenona Fleming spent the week-end with Miss Dorothy , Coram. Mr. and Mrs. Prank Poindexter, of Winston-Salem, were the Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Fleming and family. Miss Betty Lou Steelman, of Elkin, was the guest over the week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Steelman. Mrs. Ralph Coram and Misses Ruby Winkler and Louise Dean, of East Bend, spent the week-end at Boone. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Cornelius and daughter, Laura, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fletcher. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. Todd and family, of East Bend, visited Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Crav er Sunday. Miss Phoebe Day begins substi tute teaching duty at East Bend Monday in the high school de partment. She replaces Baxter Moose who has given up his po sition'. He is scheduled to umpire in the Coastal Plains League this summer. Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Poindexter, of Winston-Salem, were the Sun day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Jones and family. Mr. and Mrs. Will Poindexter, of Winston-Salem, visited Mr. Poin dexter's brothers, Oscar and Charlie. I Ted Hicks, who has been a pa tient at Chatham hospital for nearly two months, has returned to his home near here. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Angell and Mrs. R. E. Angell, of Friendship, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Reece. Boonville Missionary Society Meets The Woman's Missionary Soci ety of Boonville Baptist church met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. R. M. Fletcher, with eight members present. Haywood, Jr., of Elkin, won second place in the open jumping contest in a field of 18 horses at the annual Spartanburg, Si C., horse show held recently. A. organization of Boonville Baptist church met at the home of Allan Jessup Tues day night. The topic for the night's program was "The House That We Live In." Those taking part on the program were Henry Shore, Thomas Pardue, Rowan Motsinger, Joe Davis, Edward Coram, Harvey Smith, and Rev. Raymond Connell. The theme of the program was the comparison of building of houses with build ing of Christian citizenship. Refreshments were served. BENHAM We extend a hearty invitation to everybody to come and be with us each Sunday night for prayer service. Rev. Carl Cockerham will conduct the service next Sunday night. Several people from this com munity attended the birthday dinner Sunday at Mr. Milt Wind sor's in honor of Aunt Lodema Harp. Mrs. Harp enjoyed the day very much, and met a lot of her friends. We have on the sick list Mr. Rex Wishon, Miss Bernice Smith and Mr. Leonas Blackburn. Rev. G. W. Curry was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Billie De- Borde, of near Pleasant Home, Sunday. Mrs. Deßorde is ser iously ill. Her friends hope for her a speedy recovery. • Mr. and Mrs. Cletis Settle and Mr. and Mrs. Moseley Luffman, of Elkin, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Smith. Messrs. Thaddeus and Felix Darnell were the Sunday guests of their sister, Mrs. Marvin Lewis, and Mr. Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cothren attended the service at the reg ular preaching hour at Pleasant Home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gentry were the guests of Mr. Gentry's par ents, Mr. and Kirs. Tyra Gentry, of near Charity, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cummings and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson, all of Elkin, were the Sunday ev ening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Brady Lewis and family. Mr. and Mrs. Closier McCann and family, of Elkin, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. McCann's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tucker. Priest Lost Goose Penitent—"l have stolen a fat goose from a poultry yard!" Priest—"That is very wrong." Penitent—"Would you like to accept it, Father?" Priest—"Certainly I will not receive stolen goods. Return it to the man from whom you stole it." Penitent—"But I have offered it to him and he won't have it." Priest—"ln that case you may keep it yourself." * Penitent —"Thank you. Father." The priest arrived home to find one of his own geese stolen. NOTICE TO VOTERS At a regular meeting of the Board of Elections of Surry County, it was ordered that the polling place for Elkin Township, Surry County, North Carolina, be moved fr6m the old Bank of Elkin building to the new City Hall. The Oak Grove quartette, com posed of Ruby Nicks, Ola Pinnix, Mattie Cheeks and Anna Lee Howard, sang a t Yadkinville Baptist church the past Sunday night. Mr. Weldon Pinnix is spending this week in Greensboro on busi ness. Miss Jean Ausbin is ill with appendicitis. Friends wish for her a speedy recovery.
