Bass-Baker Vows Spoken Miss Betsy Sue Baker and Bobby Lee Bass were united in marriage on Sunday, May 1st. at three o'clock at Sarecta Free Will Baptist Church. The Reverend Clinton Davis officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Baker of Kenansville. Mrs. Juanita Bass of New Bern is the mother of the groom. Geraldine Summerlin. pianist, and Reverend Phillip Wood, soloist, provided a program of wedding music. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. She wore a white, floor-lencth gown of dacron organza fully lined in acetate taffeta. The gown was designed with a stand-up collar, and the front and back ruffle-trimmed yoke were in lace. The gown was empire waistline, with lace-trimmed illusion sleeves with snap closed lace cuffs and the full skirt featured an attached chapel-length train. Her veil was of nylon with lace with seed pearl trim. She carried a bouquet of daisies and baby orchids, lace trimmed, and tied with Mary Dudley Honored Mar> Diidlet Mary Dudle%was honored May 1st as Woman of the Year by the First Free Will Baptist Church of Kinston. She was honored for her contributions in her church, communi'y and job. She has taught school in Duplin County ll'/j years, with IO'/j of those years being in Kenansvile. Presently she is teaching grades three and four. She has taught in Wayne County Schools. Goldsboro City Schools. Raleigh City Schools. Carteret County Schools, and Duplin County schools. Mary is a graduate of Mount Olive College, Greensboro College, and re ceived her masters degree in education at East Carolina University. She is very active in church and job-related activities. She is married to T. Bruce Dudley. Free Will Baptist minister, and they have a daughter. Michelle Dudley, an eighth grader at Wooid ington Middle School. pink, white and blue steam ers tied in love knots. Barbara Smith of Kenans ville, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kelly Lynch of Golds boro. cousin of the bride, and Dawn Baker, sister of the bride. Kristy Taylor of Mount Olive was flowergirl. Charlie Bass of New Bern was the best man for his brother. Ushers were Danny Baker, brother of the bride, and LaVern Taylor. Kevin Taylor of Mount Olive was the ringbearer. The bride is a 1982 gradu ate of James Kenan High School. The groom is em ployed at Duplin General nujpiiai Cake Catting April 30th, the bride's parents gave a barbecued chicken supper for the bride and groom, wedding atten dants and the family. After the rehearsal, a cake cutting was held in the place of the reception. The three-tiered cake was served by Mary Grady of Mount Olive and Shelva Jean Brock served the punch. Other Entertainment On April 16. a bridal shower was given by Hazel Lewis of Morehead City and her daughter, Ginger Howell of Vwport. Mrs. Lewis is aunt of the bride. On April 23. Helen Kor negay. aunt of the bride, and Diane Brown, her daughter, gave the bride a luncheon in the Brown home. UNITED IN MARRIAGE Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph Bryant were wed recently in a double ring ? ceremony in Dillon. S.C. Shirley Bracey served as maid of honor and Charles Braxton served as best man. A reception was held in the home of Mrs. Beulah Brown of Fairview. S.C. immediately following the wedding. The bride is the former Betty Dawson, daughter of Mrs. Paul Eugene King of Kinston and the late Steve W. Dawson. The groom is the son of Eunice Bryant of Route I. Pink Hill, and Julian Earl Bryant of Kinston. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Herman Earl Whitman of Route 1, Kenansville, announces the engagement of his daughter. Joy Ellen, to John Wayne Matthis of Faison. son of Mr. and Mrs. John Matthis of Route 1, Kenansville. Jov Ellen is the daughter of the late Mary P. Whitman.
