NC 28349 MAY 12.1983 ROliNDBREAKING - Approximately 200 people ithered at the corner of Central Avenue and Walnut reet in Pink Hill for the official groundbreaking of the ;w Pink Hill Medical Center. Construction of the 2.700 |uare foot facility began recently by Farrior & Son of trmville. The building includes a reception area, two isiness offices, six examination rooms, a trauma room and an area which can be converted into an X-ray office. Dr. Edwin Little, who has agreed to set up practice in Pink Hill, was present for the groundbreaking. He is presently completing his residency at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pa. September 5 has been set as the completion date for the porject. ? The Singers audition for their parts and receive scholarships for their parti cipation. During the spring, the group tours high schols, civic organizations, churches and shopping malls through out eastern North Carolina. They have been featured on the,Jim Burns Show and the Kay Currie Show and will perform at Walt Disney EWorld this month. Irene Patten has directed the Singers for 10 years. She is a member of the N.C. Music Educators, the National Association of Choir Directors and is listed in Outstanding Personalities of the South. Located in Wayne County, MOC is sponsored by the N.C. MISS LIBERTY CONTESTANTS Young ladies between the ages of 16 and 19 who would like to appear as a contestant in the Miss Liberty pageant should complete an entry from giving pertinent infor mation as soon as possible. Phone 568-4162 days, 3785 after 4:30 p.m. Pink Hill Liberty Festival Plans are underway for the annual Pink Hill Liberty Fes tival to honor the Viet Nam era veterans. Chairing the event will be Pat Horner, Jeff Turner and Harold Stroud. Events planned are- chil dren's games, archery tour nament, 10-K run, airport show, martial arts, and a craft display and more. The Miss Liberty pageant is again scheduled for this year. Interested contestants should write Liberty Festival, P.O. Box 308, Pink Hill, NC 28572 before May 21. Concession stands will be $25 this year. A deposit will be required by June 1 Festival Meeting The Liberty Festival will hold a meeting this Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Pink i Hill Town Hall. Volunteers ; are desperately needed to ! make the 1983 festival "the i best yet." Make plans to ? come out tonight for this all-important meeting. GRAND OPENING - Fran s Ladies' and Men's Casuals held their grand opening on Main Street in Beulaville last Saturday. Gift certificate winners were: Libby Morton, Frances Miller, Chris Miller, Betty Wallace, and Greg Miller. Mrs. Bertie Lou Brinson was the winner of the Mother's Day Giveaway. Leland Lons Day May 14 Piney Grove Pentecostal i Free Will Baptist Church is ] sponsoring a barbecued pork | and fried chicken lunch and ' supper on Saturday, May 14 beginning at 11 a.m. The proceeds of this benefit will go into the Leland Lons Fund. Leland is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lons of Route 2. Beaulaville. "Lee" is in the second grade at Beulaville Elementary School but has not been able to go to school since Christ mas. Lee suffers from a con genital kidney illness. In early January of this year, his father donated a kidney to Lee. This transplant was unsuccessful and had to be removed. On April 13, Lee's mother gave him one of her kidoeys and they are presently recuperating at Duke Medical Center in Dur ham. Lee has had a total of three operations since the first of the year. This has resulted in a tremendous amount of expenses for the Lons family. Lee has already been a patient for V/i weeks. His dad works for Pepsi Cola Co. and has missed over six weeks of work. Mrs. Lons works with MSA in Jack sonville and has been out of work since December. At the present time, they have made over 20 trips to Dur ham. Three Shot In Warsaw Warsaw police reported three men were shot at 502 Yancey Street Sunday after noon. about 12:30 p.m. Shot were: Robert Korne gay. 50. of Turkey, in the right arm; Booker T. James. 50. of Warsaw, in the left arm; and Robert Smith. 27, of Warsaw , in the right side and leg. Arrested was Walter Hand. 22, of Faison. He was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury and one count of damage to real property.
