KMNetters Blank NG On Tuesday Kings Mountain High’s girls tennis team opened Southwestern 3-A Conference play Tuesday afternoon at home with a 9-0 victory over North Gaston. The Mountainettes, 2-2 overall, host South Point in a SWC match today. > Kings Mountain won all nine of Tuesday’s matches in straight sets. “It was the first match North Gaston has ever played,” noted KMHS Coach Ed Guy. “We didn’t have much trouble winn ing the matches. We’re going to have to do a much better job of runn ing the football. “East Rutherford had a good chance to win or at least tie against Crest last week,” Brooks went on. ‘They dropped a touchdown pass toward the end of the game and could won. East Rutherford has played a tougher schedule than the Mounties, losing narrow deci sions to Hendersonville, R-S Central and Crest. Coach Brooks doesn't plan any drastic changes for Friday but intends to continue shifting players around and get more players in the game. “We can be as good as anybody if we grow up,” said Brooks. Crest won the meet with 42 and one-half points, followed by Kings Mountain with 40 and one-half and Burns with 32. First place finishers for the Lady Patriots included Sonya McClain in the discus. Spring Young in the SO and 100 meter dashes, Alena-Moore in the'400 meter dash and Young, Pandora Leach, Moore and Mary Floyd in the 800 meter relay. Second places went to Linda Wray in the high jump, Anita Ware in the discus, Lavondra Boyce in the 70 meter hurdles and McClain in the 200 meter dash. Third places included Ware in the shot put and 800 meter run. Shannon Curry in the long jump and Tina Herndon in the 70 meter hurdles. Coach Candy Albergine takes her ladies to Crest Tuesday for a meet with Crest and Shelby.
