Before hostilities ended in 1945, the company was producing hundreds of products needed by the armed forces. In addition to milhons of tires and tubes for military vehicles and aircraft, the company produced aircraft oxygen cylinders, gas masks, airplane wings, tank tracks, machine gun clips, life belts and life boats, and many other rubber, steel and plastic products. Firestone’s research in synthetic rubber proved of great value during the war when the United States’ supply of natural rubber from the Far East was cut off. Seven Health Rules Want to get a bigger slice of life? Want to live longer and feel better? A recent California study shows that people who follow 7 simple health rules can expect to add an actual 11 extra years to their life spans. —Start each day with breakfast. —Eat three meals a day. —Limit alcoholic beverages. —Limit your smoking. —Scheule enough sleep. —Get plenty of exercise. —Watch your weight. People who follow 6 or 7 of these live much longer, on the average. Those who follow 0 to 3 of them just don’t average as long a life. It’s simple. The more of these rules your observe, the better your chance of getting a bigger slice of life. And you’ll feel a lot better too. Remember, staying healthy is primarily your responsibility. Not that of doctors and drugs. Take charge of your own lifestyle and get all the life that’s coming to you. Studies show environment and lifestyle are now more important to health than good medical care. Bet ter food, shelter and sanitation ac count for the greatest improve ment in life expectancy during the last 200 years. SERVICE AWARDS ANNIVERSARIES SEPTEMBER, 1982 45 YEARS Quality Control - J.W.
