■m \ ROUGH DAY AT THE AIRDRO/«£ PETE JONES - IN/N We finally go t I 11 company oaper that sheet and not a "memo gratulatlonsl Con Here In the lazy southland we call IMN, nothing drastic has happened the past few months, business has be«n ’’slow” but the day. and ou t to days Then Yes sir, a Isas canda I better this year at this time over last so that is a good sign. Like everyone else, we can see a lot of changes In PA I In our first five years of operations. Used to know all the schedules and almost everyone that worked with the company. It is a lot different now. Can*t remember any schedules without looking and hardly know any people other February I, 1948 was It was colder than h snowing. Couldn^t get the airport for several account road conditions came the big dayl Piedmont's first flight February 20, 1948. In came the flight. No on e knew what was going on. Someone said (a wheel), "Jones, you look like a good man. How bout refueling this flight?” (Stupid me had put on my application that I had a little time around airplanes while in the a rmy«) One of the INTE's must have re membered. The same oright chap directed me to the oil* It was very thoughtful for them to put it in quart cans (throw-away type). Did you ever try to pour two cases of oil in quart cans in mid-February? Not too bad, is It? Well, try it some time using a screw-driver for a n opene r t Fellow Peons, 1 just wanted to tell the above story to make a point. I was ready to quit after that first day as I had been previously told the glory behind an airline job. Before coming with Piedmont, I was on the "outside” of the fence looking In. I didn't like what I saw at first when I was "inside” looking out. Better judgment told me to stick it out so I did. I don't regret It. I have had a few good breaks since then, so when you think you are working too hard and are not getting any "glory" see yourself five years from now and be glad you stuck It out* I think you will find It will pay off * I hope we can five years as the pas t five you ten there ahead I" . . . progress the next fast as we did Five will get are "Better days Pete J ones CLT ADDS NEW FACES TO STAFF than our own station* (Even thought Gordon Brown left the company, but see he is signing memos again).
