CHARLESTON - (Ruth Miller) As many of you know, three of us from PA| were chosen for a trip to Europe this past month for a week's fomil iarlzatlon v I o Sabena Airline5..so unless you would like to know more about the things we saw and just how exc ited | have been .. . | suggest you stop here - still with me? Well, here goes; First of all there were three of us. Dot Davis, FAY; Bob Reed, ROA and myself, who joined three from AAA in New York for the trip aboard Sabena Super DC6. We all feel that we were very fortunate, and I want you to know all It took to make it perfect was to have each of you on board. We left Sunday, Feb. 19 and were in Brussels the following morning about 9:50. We were met by Mr. Andre Seydel, Agency and Interline Manager, who was our con stant companion and host on the trip. He was wonderful to us, and very cleaver in his manner. Girls, he looked just like Danny Kaye of the movies. And, to be sure , he got a kick out of our American "slang" expressions such as, "See you later. Alligator" and "You just ain't a whisti Ing Dixie . " Stopping to mention,Mr. Reed had quite a "harum" on the trip with his five gals. .. . and all our yakking. Using Brussels as a connecting point, we left in two hours for Frankfurt, Germany . in Frankfurt we were guests at the Frank furter Hof Hotel certainly beautiful in every respect. Each of us had a most beautiful room and bath. In Frankfurt we were met by Miss Ingaeborg Rainsch of Sabena who would be ourFrankfurt Hostess. She was a lovely German girl and spoke English,French and German. In Frankfurt we toured the lovely Palmen Garden where we saw tropical plants and spring flowers of every description, a truly georgous paradise. Supper was enjoyed in Wiesba den at the Casino. The fol lowing day we motored to the Taunus and Rhein district and visited the Kron- berger Schloss for dinner. This castle was built by Empress Friedrick, Mother of Wil helm II in the year 1888. Aside from the large drawing rooms and banquet halls on the ground floor, 30 rooms with a total of 50 beds are available for hotel purposes. Dot fell down the Castle steps, not hurt , but don't you think It's an honor to fall down castle steps ? We visited another old castle with vine covered walls actually occupied by knights and their ladies. A .V 1^ Ruth Miller-CHW Bob Reed-ROA Dot Davis-FAY PAI, AAA and Sabena Employees nice German boy from Frankfurt University was our guide. In the laterafternoon we returnedto Brussels for transfer of plane to Paris. AFrench lady from Sabena, Maureen Pestchansky, met us as the Paris Hostess. We went by coach to the Grand Hotel where again we each had large rooms with outstanding furnishings . Had fifteen minutes to change and go down stairs for transfer to the famous "IDG", famous Paris night-spot. This was amagnl- ficlent place . . I ines and words won't des cribe It. Ingrid Bergman's table was next to ours. Certainly enjoyed ourselves and later went to one of their small "clubs". La Calavados - not enough hours to cover all the territories. Kronberges Schloss - Germany 18th Century church with al I Its magnlflclent splendor. Lunch was enjoyed at LoGrenouIl le where each of us rece ived little green frogs, I Ike paper weights, for souvenirs - many memories of this place. The afternoon was spent visiting the Louvre, famous museum where we viewed the statues of Winged Victory and Venus, the painting of Mona Lisa and The Lords Supper, and many others that concentrated our time for over three hours. We were scheduled for ascension In the Eifel tower, but its elevator was fro - zen. The following day, after a shopping trip tn Paris, and special dinner at O Cabanon we boarded our First Class FI Ight for Brussels. Here we stayed at the Palace Hotel. Again our rooms were just "out of this world" and certalnly modern. The mirror In the bathroom even had a sunlamp within the glass. We spent the remainder of this day shopping In their largest store. The evening was spent at Malson Du Roy D' Espalgne. Our guide forthe next day was so Intel llgent and his manner was witty, certainly kept us sleepy heads wide awake. Qur first stop was the I ace shop of Mary Dusaer - and to make sure we bought samples. Our next stop was the Palace of Justice which is tne largest building in the world and the Patrla square . The most beautiful buildings of all were in Brussels;because of their a- bundance of gold - some of the building fronts had gold In their structure .We made a wish at the statue of Charles Bue. The following day we visited a very old Visited the Sabena Air terminal building. -4-
