PAGE TWO THE PIEDMONITOR SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, 1972 Long Lines Since Piedmont’s long line is one of, if not the most sticcessful of OUT modes of communication, we thought a column by the same name might be a good way of mentioning some of the small, but newsy things of interest that go on around the system. Any contributions you might have will be more than welcome. Address them to the Editor, Piedmonitor, INT-ZY. credit union reps The Credit Union has started a new program which includes having a representative in each station. Appointed by the station managers these representatives serve as liaisons between the credit union and the employees. They are kept up to date on CU policies and procedures. They also keep a complete supply of credit union forms on hand in each station. The program was initiated as a service for employees who want or need assistance. It does not mean that all transactions with the Credit Union must be handled through the station reps. The following is a list of the newly appointed credit union representatives; James R. Crank — AGS; Lance Anderson — ATL; H. A. Perry — AVL, J. L. Howell — BKW; Conley Blevins — BLF; R. H. Wylie — BNA; Joe Frick — CAE; C. N. Riddle — CHO; J. B. Rutledge — CLT; Joe E. Erase — CMH; M. B. ''order of the vest'' Norfolk’s Postmaster, Aubrey Graham was recently presented with the “Order of the Vest”. This distinction is awarded annually to postal and airline employees who have made significant contributions in the area of air mail services. Candidates for the Order are proposed by either the Air Transport Associa tion or member carriers. Among those taking part in the presentation to Mr. Graham was Piedmont’s Norfolk City Sales Manager Norm Coiner (see photo). The District Sales Man agers for United and National Airlines, D. M. Barclay and B. A. Wright also took part in making the award. good-bye cards During the past couple of ‘computer years’ a number of alphabet words have crept into our vocabularies and become such an integral part of our day-to-day speech that we some times forget or never actually learn their mean ing. Up until now we equated CRT’s with send ing and receiving reservations type messages. The Cathode Ray Tubes also have other uses. Piedmont has recently leased eight new CRT’s to replace the key punch machines that were used to translate for the accounting depart ment’s computer. These new Inforrex CRTs speed up the work of feeding the computer. The data entry operators type out the infor mation for inventory or payroll or whatever on the CRTs which record the data on discs. From the discs the information is transferred to tape. This tape can be read into the computer 10 times faster than the old punched cards. Prior to the installation of the new CRTs the operators turned out approximately 100,000 cards a week. The new machines have increased production by nearly 20% per operator. CRT Tells Its Own Story. tadlock leads ops conference Vice President — Flight Operations W. 0. “Jack” Tadlock was recently installed as presi dent of the operations conference of the Air Transport Association. He will serve until Sep tember of next year. This past year Tadlock was vice president of the group which held its annual meeting in Los Angeles in September. piedmonitor wins award The Piedmonitor was recently honored with the first place award as the Best Low Budget publication by the South Atlantic Council of Industrial Editors. S.A.C.I.E. is affiliated with the International Association of Business Com municators (I.A.B.C.). The cut off point for ‘low budget’ in the competition was $6,000 a year or less. Both newspapers and magazines were eligible. A four-color magazine, “Greens boro Vick”, published by the Vick Manufactur ing Division of Richardson-Merrell, Inc. won the second place award. Publications Editor Betsy Allen received the award at annual S.A.C.I.E. conference at Myrtle Beach in Sep tember. Miss America Is Greeted By President Davis. vip passengers Among Piedmont’s recent passengers there have been several well-known names on the manifests. President Davis readily agreed when asked to greet the new Miss America when she came to Winston-Salem. Terry Anne Meeuwsen (pronounced Musen) made her first public appearance as Miss America at the Miss Winston-Salem pageant. Also seen deplaning from a Piedmont flight to Myrtle Beach was Herb Klein who is Director of Communications for President Nixon. Memphis Station Manager Wayne Tucker sent us a note saying that Mrs. Babe Ruth came through there not long ago, but his pictorial proof of her visit wouldn’t reproduce for the Piedmonitor. national golfing notes Golfers seem to be making most of Pied mont’s sports news lately.
