AWARDS NIGHT HELD AT FOREMEN’S CLUB I Left to right are: W. L. Voncannon, superintendent. Ladies' Hosiery Division; John J. Ross, engineer, American Mutual Liability Insurance Company; Ola Carpenter, chairman, safety committee. Plant #6; Carrie Lemar, chairman, safety committee, Plant ^f4; Frank Crane, Commissioner of Labor of The State of North Carolina; and J. H. Millis, president, Adams-Millis Corporation. Awards were made to Plants #4, #6, #7 and MAC Panel at the Awards Night of Adams-Millis Corporation on May 13, 1963. Meeting at the Adams-Millis Foremen's Club House, 107 super visors and safety committeemen heard Frank Crane, Commissioner of Labor of North Carolina, recognize them for outstanding performance in accident prevention during 1962. Crane humorously cited hazards of industry, highway and the home. He told the group that North Carolina has reduced its accident frequency 50% in the last fifteen years. The speaker stated, however, that we have not done so well in the areas of home and highway safety. Commissioner Crane pre sented joint awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor and the United States Department of Labor. Blue Ribbons, representing second consecutive years in outstanding per formance in accident prevention, went to Plants #4 and #6. Plant #7 was presented the five-year plaque, having worked for five consecutive years without a lost time injury. The first- year award went to MAC Panel. John J. Ross, engineer for Ameri can Mutual Liability Insurance Com pany, presented similar awards to the plants. Ross was loud in his praise of Plant #4 which "has come from the role of the ugly duckling of just a few years ago to a period of ten months with only three minor medical cases involving no lost time. " President J. H. Millis told the group that he was most appreciative of the fine team present for the meet ing and of the fine work being done by the team.
