The annual Red Cross Spring Bloodmobile sponsored by the ROTC Detachment was held throughout the day in Jordan Gym, netting 203 pints for the Alamance Red Cross Chapter. Thirty-three of the donors were giving blood for the first time. "We were a little worried about the timing of this Blood- mobile,” said Cadet Capt. Lisa Huffman. “With Spring Break so close we were afraid that many of the students might be leaving ear ly.” The Spring Blood Drive results did not break the all-time record set last fall (248 pints) but involvement by student groups on campus was much improved, she said. Backed by the Student Govern ment Association, prizes were awarded to the top three student donor groups. First prize went to Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority with 50 pints. Second prize went to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity with 47 pints. Sigma Pi fraternity’s 21 pints won them third prize. Capt. Walter Joyce, advisor for the cadets said he was very pleas ed with the outcome. “The cadets decided not to compete for the prizes this time as a group so they were all available to donate for other groups.” Joyce added that the rules for donor recruitment will be chang ed somewhat for next fall’s Blood Drive. “We’re going to have to prohibit recruiting of donors in side the gym during the Blood Drive. It’s a little disruptive and really defeats the purpose of the competition,” he said. The Fall Bloodmobile is ten- tavively scheduled for Oct. 15. You can be their favorite fall color: Golden-Brown.
