Thursday. April 18. 1985 The Pendulum Page 7 Witness’ is a movie that )ortrays love and adventure Twist continued from page 1 By Patricia Aycock Arts Editor An Edward S. Feldmond pro- toction. Witness is a movie that :ontains the elements of lominess. danger, adventure, liiB a lot of romance. Directed by Peter Weir, nmess stars Harrison Ford as a Mladeiphian detective who tries jhelp an Amish woman (played ) Kelly McGillis) and her young on. The young boy has witness- d a murder in a restroom at a Bin station and is the only ap- Kent witness. Movie review The plot thickens when the foung boy identifys the murderer a high official at the liiledelphia police station. Life becomes increasingly ingerous for Harrison Ford as nowledge of the murder Komes known to the official. Harrison becomes seriously ounded by him when he at tempts fo leave town with the Amish woman and her son. The dangerous situation is con trasted against the peaceful coun- tyside of the Pennsylvania Amish community where Harrison is forced to take refuge in order to protect himself as well as McGillis and her son. Romance soon sparks between Harrison and McGillis. The two couldn’t seem more opposite. McGillis is a dignified, graceful and natural beauty whose religion is founded on the simple way of life, free of modern utilities and violence. Harrison is the handsome, tough dectective who shies away from away from serious in volvements and believes that violence can be for the good of man. The young, hoodlum boys of the town stop the wagon to make fiin of the Amish and smear ice cream in the face of one Amish, while laughing. The Amish way is to passively endure this treatment and go on about their business. But that isn’t the Harrison Ford way. As Harrison leaps out of the wagon, he knocks the young man to the ground, proving that violence in the right context can be beneficial to man. The initial attraction between Harrison and McGillis is evident at the beginning of the film and builds quietly yet powerfully throughout the rest of the movie Not your average sort of movie, but it proves to be a welcomed change of pace. Witness is a movie for everyone who loves adventure and romance. the same time. The Home is run exclusively by donation.
