Briggs is also planning a breast cancer fundraiser in October. She applied for the LeaderShape vision funding but she has not heard back from the Institute regarding its deci sion on funding. Senior Laura Bates attended as well. "My LeaderShape vision was for all individuals in society to be self-assured and confident. The goals I had originally set for myself to accomplish my vision are a littl^ challeng ing currently because of school and other things, but I feel as though I am help ing in a small way," said Bates. Since the residents on her hall were such a diverse group of people with a diverse group of issues, she said positive self esteem and confidence is something she was striving for them to gain tills year. McKinnon, who attend ed last year said, "My LeaderShape vision is to make the Association of Cultural Awareness a more inclusive organization by reaching out to the commu nity and recruiting new members. LeaderShape helped to enhance my lead ership skills. After LeaderShape I was encour aged and knew that I could do anything my heart desired if I had a clear vision and dedication." On January 30- February 1 2004 part of McKinnon's vision will become reality on the Meredith Campus. Meredith College and the Association of Cultural Awareness (ACA) will host the 11th Annual Southeastern African American Leadership Conference (SEAALC). The SEAALC is a con ference aimed at develop ing and strei^thening the leadership abilities and skills of African American students across the south- eastem^United States. In the past few yews the con ference has expanded to incorporate all students. This will be the fu^t time in 11 years that this historic conference will be held at a women's institu tion. By hosting this con> ference, Meredith will give students the opportunity to learn more about other cul tures while enhwcing AfHcan American students’ leadership skills.
