Concerned citizens have asked us to remind residents that it is important for everyone's safety that when on town streets, pedestrians should walk on the side of the road facing the traffic, but bicyclists should ride on the side with traffic. PINE KNOLL SHORES GARDEN CLUB The final meeting of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club for the 1996-1997 year took place June 11 at the Sheraton in Atlantic Beach. A festive "happy hour" was followed by a lovely luncheon after which President Clare Winslow thanked all of her officers and committees for their tireless efforts in making the year such a success. She highlighted such special events as the Christmas Luminaria, Arbor Day Planting and the annual plant sale. Special recognition was given to Lois Jean O'Keefe and Nan Gildner for their extraordinary efforts throughout the year. Lois Jean O'Keefe presented Irene Doremus with a Life Membership in Garden Club. Yola Hanan was greeted and welcomed back as a former club member. The installation of officers for the coming year was conducted by Betty Gray who served as president of the club from 1986 to 1987. She chose as her theme the association of flowers to leadership and presented each new officer with a lovely bouquet of flowers. The slate of officers for the coming year is: President Mary Heim Co-Vice Presidents Irene Doremus and Judy Poit Second Vice President Olga Welsh Recording Secretary Lenora Roberson Corresponding Secretary Lois Heffelfinger Treasurer Lois Strube: Mrs. Gray challenged the new board to a coming year of fun and service to the community. The gavel was turned over to Mary Heim by Clare Winslow. A lovely .gift was presented to outgoing president, a statue of St. Francis. President Heim adjourned the meeting. Casey Griffin Al! that Trash!!! Waste Industries summer collection scheduIe is now in effect. Regular garbage is picked up twice a weeki on Mondays and Thursdays. Recyclables are also collected every Thursday. This schedule wllJ continue through the end of August. AT THE LIBRARY Bogue Banks Public Library, Pine Knoll Shores Branch of Carteret County Public Library CALENDAR FOR lULY THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY.. lULY 4TH. FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY. OF SPECIAL NOTE; Bogue Banks Public Library offers a free Summer Reading Program for children ages 3 through 12. Registration begins on Monday, June 30th, with the first program also scheduled for that day at 10:30 a.m. At that time each Monday during July there will be special programs at the library with story hours, movies, and special guests. On August 4th there will be a final celebration The Summer Film Classics for children ages 4-12 will be shown at the Bogue Banks library each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. 'The schedule of movies for the month of July are: "Cricket in Times Square" and "Frog, Where Are You? on July 3rd; "Madeline and the Bad Bat" and "It's Me, Claudia" on July 10th; "Ralph J. Mouse" and "There's Something in My Attic" on July 17th; "Granpa: a Children's Operetta" and "Harry and the Lady Next Door" on July 24th: and "Horton Hatches the Egg" and "Horton Hears a Who" on July 31st. 3
