Open House To Highlight Mill Improvements ^.odemization Progra m In Past ive Years Brings Changes To ^*1 Tri-City and Fieldale Mills The “open house” at Fieldcrest this * will highlight many facets of a JfO,000,000 modernization program car- on in the Company’s operations in ^he Tri-Cities and at Fieldale, Va., in the ®st five years. These improvements involved not large expenditures for new ma- fiinery and equipment but also for Mding additions and alterations and . ^tensive relocation of machinery for ^.eased efficiency of operation, included in the projects for the peri- in General Offices build- occupied early in 1958, and a new ^9-rehouse at the Towel Mill, Fieldale, ® > for the storage of finished products. Major improvements made at each are listed below. The Bedspread Mill modernized its spinning machinery, purchased addition al looms, a new slasher, and made major changes in the Winding Department layout. Finishing operations for the Bed spread Mill were consolidated into a separate mill unit and moved to the former Rhode Island Mill building in North Spray. At the Blanket Mill a large addition was built to the Weave Room, new looms and jacquard heads were pur chased, machinery from the St. Marys Woolen Mill in Ohio was moved to the Blanket Mill, new space was added for the Opening Room and new equipment installed, new drawing and fly frames were purchased, the cotton system spin ning was modernized, and several de partments were relocated. At the Bleachery and Finishing Mill many new pieces of equipment were in stalled including additional Gessner nappers and a James Hunter continuous (Continued on page five) Employees And Public Invited To Tour Mills Fieldcrest will hold “open house” at all of the mills in the Tri-Cities and at the General Offices Wednesday and Thursday, November 8 and 9, from 1 p. m. to 9 p. m. and at the Towel Mill in Fieldale, Va., Wednesday, November 8, from 2 p. m. until 8 p. m. Visitors are invited to tour the mills to see results of the $20,000,000 modern ization program carried on since the last open house in May of 1956. Employees, their families and friends, and the general public will be given tours of the plants and offices during the visiting hours. Children under 16 years of age are not invited. Valuable attendance prizes, consist ing of well-known products of each mill, will be awarded through drawings among those attending. During the event, special honor will be paid to the Company’s 1363 employ ees with 25 or more years of continuous service. They will be furnished silver- printed blue ribbons with the words “25-Year Club.” Employees who are members of the 25-Year Club are requested to wear the stick-on ribbons on the job during the open house and also to wear the honor ribbons when visiting the mills with (Continued on page four) Bloodmobile To Visit Draper November 21 A goal of 200 pints has been set for the visit by the Bloodmobile to Draper Tuesday, November 21. The unit will be stationed at the First Methodist Church in Draper from 11 a. m. until 4:30 p. m. The Tri-Cities’ quota for the year is 850 pints. Only 635 pints had been col lected through September 30 and there has been no Bloodmobile visit since that date. Assuming that 200 pints will be donated on the Draper visit, the Tri- City area would still be slightly behind its yearly quota. Active recruiting of donors will begin November 13.
