James Wall, assistant foreman, serves third shift winders. No Lost-Time Injuries At Plant During 1961 In recognition of their outstanding safety record in 1961, employees of the Bedspread Mill were given a barbecue Which was served in the mill on all three shifts Tuesday, January 9. Plates containing barbecue, hushpup- pies, slaw, and a cookie, along with free coffee and cold drinks, were served by the supervisors on the various shifts. The employees earned the barbecue by working the entire year of 1961 without any lost time due to injury. As of December 31, the mill had oper ated 373 days, or 793,048 man-hours, since the last lost-time injury occurred December 23, 1960. The employees were commended :n a bulletin board notice signed by F. E. Barron, mill manager, and W. G. Hun- nings, superintendent, which said in Part; “Congratulations to all Bedspread em ployees for working safely and for com pleting the year 1961 without a lost time injury. “May we commend each one of you for your interest and cooperation in our safety program. In addition, may We urge you to keep safety in mind dur ing this, a new year. “Good housekeeping, quality, and safety go hand in hand. Our team spirit at Bedspread has made us move out front in several community projects. Now (our mill is) a leader in safety. Let’s put emphasis in 1962 on quality, housekeeping, and safety.” Under terms of a safety contest spon sored by the company, a barbecue is given all employees of any mill which nieets the requirements for a state safe ty award.
