SUNDAY IS21ST BIRTHDAY Local Christian Church To Celebrate With Special Sen ice Sunday A. M. -o This Sunday, August 4th, the Roanoke Rapids Christian Church will celebrate its 21st birthday with Rev. R. L. Topping, founder of the church, officiating. The local church was organized the first Sunday in August, 1914. The present building was started in 1920 and completed in 1926. Mr. Topping served as pastor the first seven years. Rev. V. II. Grantham has been the pastor since. A special program is being ar ranged for Sunday morning with appropriate music for an anniver sary and homecoming servce. The public is invited to take part in the celebration. The local Boy Scout troop will attend in a body in uniform. Building Society Meets The Church Buliding Fund So ciety of the Christian Church met Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Pierce. Several new members joined. R. L. Topping presided. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Lettie Arm strong on August 6th. All mem bers are urged to attend and bring others. The society will meet August 13th with Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Gir kins on Henry St. C. Radcliffe is vice president in charge of solicit ing new members. Confirmation and Dedication Services at Littleton Epis’l Church -o A Confirmation and Dedication - service v&s held at the Littleton Episcopal church Sunday morning. The regular appointment was fill ed by Bishop Penick of the Dio cese of North Carolina. Those confirmed were Misses Frances Vick, Edwina Taylor, Jane John ston, Beth Partin and Wheeless Cole. Windows were dedicated to Mrs. Frances Joyner, Mrs. Mary S. Moore and Mrs. Charlotte Ivey, in a beautiful and impressive ser vice. Visitors from out of town to at tend the services were: Mrs. Janie Turner, Mrs. Casper Gregory and Ms. Julan Inge of Weldon, Mrs. W. W. Simms, Miss Sadie Vinson and Mrs. Sallie Summerville of Wilson, Reginald Joyner of Thel NOTICE OF ADMINISTRATION Having qualified as Administra trix of the estate of John K. Long tables were placed on the lawn where a bountiful repast was served. The tables were decorated with potted plants and cut flowers. Thirty-five guests were present to enjoy the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Glas gow. - __A____ LEGION MAY HAVE ONE POST Legion members from the three active posts in Halifax County met Tuesday night at Weldon for a discussion of the plan to con solidate the three posts into one county post. The Commanders and Adjutants of the three American Legion Posts were present, as were about twenty other ex-service men. Sen timent was strong for the county post proposition. A county-wide meeting of all ex-service men was set at Halifax for Tuesday night, August 12th, at which time the matter will be finally settled and voted on. The three active posts now are at Weldon, Scotland Neck and En field. Roanoke Rapids members belong to the Weldon Post. ■-o Dies At Seaboard Harold Milton Johnston, nine months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnston of Seaboard, died Saturday from colitis. Funeral services were held at the resi dence Sunday by the Rev. Loy with interment in the Seaboard Ceme tery. TOWN TALK Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Hawkins spent the week-end in White Plains, Va., with Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Hawkins. Mesdames Lewis Johnson, Bob Merritt and Misses Alice Merritt, Josie Johnson, Ruth and Viola Glover, Evelyn Johnson, Maxine Hawkins, Hilda Hines and Thomas Merritt are spending this week at Minnesotte Beach. Miss Bettye Sue Buffaloe of Norfolk, Va., is spending several days with Mrs. J. R. Wirtz. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kee of Sea board were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kee.
