Littleton All-Star Team Beats Rapids With overcast skies threatening every moment and a wet and sog gy field to play on the weather man allowed the first game of the scheduled doubleheader to go by unharmed Wednesday afternoon and the Littleton All Stars defeat ed Roanoke Rapids by the score of 7 to 6 at Littleton. The game was decided upon at the opening of the contest but only seven innings would be played due to the late start of the first game and to allow time enough for the second game to be played with Louisburg. Coming to bat trailing the Halifax County boys by a one run margin the All Stars rallied in the last half of the seventh to score two runs and take the ball game like real fighters. Browning was the first man up in the seventh and received a base on balls, the seventh free base is sued by I. Byrd, hurler for the Rapids team. Acree next up grounded to short, but Shell made a bad play at second base trying to nab Browning. Palmer then singled to left field along the third base line scoring Browning with the tying run, and then Starke, playing second base for the Halifax boys made an error of a hard hit roller off the bat of Cole allowing Acree to score the winning run. Roanoke Rapids got off to a fast start making three runs in the first, two in the second and one in the third, but the All Stars made good the three wild throws by Byrd, his seven free bases on balls and five timely hits to run their total runs to seven, one more than the total made by Roanoke Rapids, to take their fifth straight game. Their scoring innings were two in the first, three in the fourth, and two in the last. Wood, hurler for the All Stars, went the route and began setting the visitors down three in a row after the third inning when he got his fast ball under control. Cole was the star of the game. He drove in four runs, made two beautiful running catches of hard hit flies in his field and led his team at bat with his two singles. He played center field for the All Stars. The second game of the after noon against the Louisburg team was rained out after only two in nings were played. The All Stars were leading at the close of the game by the score of 8 to 4.
