WELDON NEWS Miss Lillie White Boseman of Tarboro, N. C., spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Anna Bose man. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Johnson vis ited Mrs. Johnson's parents in Ox ford, N. C. Sunday. Miss Elizabeth Holmes, who has been attending school in New York returned home last week to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Holmes. Mrs. Virginia Flowers spent the week-end in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Harry Rawlins spent Sun day in Severn, N. C., with her moth er, Mrs. Barnes. Misses Alice and Frances Moore are visiting relatives in Poikton. Mrs. W. A. Pierce Jr. and Miss Martha Pierce left Tuesday morn ing for New York. Mr. and Mrs. John Cook visited Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Jordan in Rocky Mount, N. C. Sunday. Mrs. J. A. Harvell returned home Monday after spending several days with her daughter, Miss Elizabeth Harvell. m CreensDoro. Miss Doris Willey of E.C.T.C., Greenville. N. C„ spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Willey. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Knight have returned home after attending a general Methodist Conference in Kansas City, Mo. They have been away for three weeks. A" delightful dinner party was given Miss Susie Spruill Mohorn in honor of her 18th birthday Satur day evening, May 7 on the Jeffer son Standard roof in Greensboro by the following friends and class mates of Miss Mohorn at W.C.U.N. C.: Misses Beth Slocum, Wilming ton, Sara Jane Hunter, Henderson, Barbara Wyche, Charlotte, Dorothy Cooper, Henderson, Marjorie Holmes, Red Bank, N. J„ Jean Thomas, Spindale, Anne Turrentine, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Blanche Mitchell, W’eldon. Mrs. L. C. Draper of Weldon en tertained the Book Club at her home on Fourth Street Wednesday afternoon. Fourteen active and two associate members answered to roll call. Miss Margaret Pierce was welcomed to membership in the club. Mrs. D. F. Green, chair man of the program committee for next year, announced the study would be on “Russia”, the year books to be bought from the li brary extension service of the Uni versity of North Carolina. After a most instructive and enjoyable year’s study on “Literary Back grounds of Present Pay Germa ny” the club anticipates next year’s course with pleasure. The subject for the afternoon’s study was on "Hans Fallada” and his books. "Lit tle Man, What Now”, and “The World Outside”. Mrs. D. F. Green presented this paper asking Mrs. S. B. Pierce to introduce the au thor with a brief review of his life. Lovely summer flowers were used throughout the living rooms and hall. Mrs. Draper assisted by Mrs. Burwell Allen and Miss Hart Dra per served tea, sandwiches, date bars and nuts to the club members and Mesdames C. J. Owen, Burwell Allen, R. A. Musgrove, O. J. Scott of New York, E. B. Clark and Miss Martha Pierce. Naomie Pair Dies Friday Naomie Marie Pair, 12 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. I>. Pair, died in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital Friday a.m. at 11:15 fol lowing a few weeks’ illness. Na omie had been enjoying good health prior to her illness. She was an active member of New Hope Sunday School and church. She became a member of the church last summer but has been a member of the Sunday School all her life. She was in the 7th grade of Roanoke Rapids High School. Has been doing very good work in her studies. Rook of Richmond, Va., and C. P. Powell of Roanoke Rapids. Flower girls were: Florence and Edith Pair, Ida and Lucille Shaw, Atlee and Vashti Weaver, Jewell Frances Mitchell, Dorothy Hocka day, Ruth King, Frances Van Nort wick, Josephine Tetterton, Joseph ine Draper, Johnnie Bell Shearin, Ruth Lockamon, Nancy Shearin, Virginia Bell and Ella Bell Jenkins. 25 R. Mr. Love is well-known in the city, having lived here for almost 2-years. His home is in South Rosemary, and for the present at least, he will make that headquar ters for his repair shop.
