The week's study was in preparation to the opening of the sales office here on December 1. Mrs. Mincher left here Saturday, October 26, and began her study Monday. The first day consisted of a study of pertinent facts, while the remainder of the week- was spent in actual selling of license plates in the Charlotte office. She worked under the supervision of ex perienced agents of the Carolina Motor Club, gaining valuable train ing in the actual sale of the plates. Mrs. Mincher stated this week that she felt capable of handling the job after the week's study. She will be assisted here by a patrol man when his services are need ed. Mrs. Mincher will serve as an agent of the Carolina Motor Club in connection wit!; her job of selling licenses. STELL IS PRINCIPAL SPEAKER IN PROGRAM AT GASTON MONDAY Rev. Lawrence Stell, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church here, was the guest speaker in a patriotic program at the Gas ton school Monday night. The program was sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association of the high school at Gaston. In addition to the talk by Mr. Stell, many students and mem bers of the organization partici pated in the program. The pro gram was opened with a prayer by Mr. Stell. Vivi an Clairborne, a member of the eighth grade and acting as chair man of the program, then asked the audience to stand and sing "America." Patriotic poems were rendered by Fredric Hodges and Alease High, members of the third grade. In singing "Our Flag" and "Soldier Boy", Fredric and Alease were joined by class mates, Mary E. Massey, Natalie Coker, Vivian Whitby, Arline Wray, Jeannette Ferguson, Charles L. Blythe, Billy Blackwelder, Peg gy Seawell, Virginia Woodruff, Maxine Bryant, Emma J. Ander son, and Theresa Vaughn. The audience gave the pledge of alle giance with the pupils. Mr. Stell told his audience that national democracy demands that people use their minds to settle the issues that confront them, that citizens practice unselfish ness, that all people hold their opinions and beliefs in such a way that they may examine them again and again, changing them, if necessary. A short business session was conducted for the members by the president, Mrs. Robert Price. New Recreation Center Is Opened A Pre-School Class was opened Monday of this week at the Vance St. School. The attendance was 23, which is all that can be taken, care of at present. Mrs. Rebecca Moore is in charge of this group of children and much interest and enthusiasm has; been shown tjy the parents, friends, and school officials of the city. Miss Kate Mills Suiter of Scotland Neck, N. C., is County Supervisor of W. P. A. Recreation and visits the city several times each week. Mrs. T. M. Jenkins, who is city supervisor, wishes to thank all the folks who have made con tributions to the recreation cen ter. Girl Breaks Arm Ruth Geneva Pierce, 9 year old girl of the Gaston School, fell Mon day at school and broke her arm below the elbow. She was playing when the accident occurred, it is reported.
