The signifi cance of such controversies, says Dr. Lynn H. Hough, “lay in the difference between religion and magic and religion as an ehtical t experience. Thoughts of gratitude and thank fulness for the never-failing love and all-embracing mercy of God should kindle an effective desire to become more worthy. Remem bering the grept gift to mankind, one should seek opportunities of service, whereby appreciation would take tnagible forms of ex pression. Reflecting upon the perfect life commemorated and the high ideals of conduct it ex emplified, one should realize de fects and imperfections, resolving to improve them, in the hope of more nearly approaching the di vine standard of living. A quiet and reverent admini stration of the Lord’s Supper is necessary for the participant to experience these spiritual bene fits. Unless the heart is com pletely cold and callous, remem bering the sacrifice of Christ will strengthen one’s faith, quicken one’s gratitude and move one to good works.
