' The opportunity to "apeak out- In meetln' " waa never more eagerly grasped than- by a youngster of five who recently accompanied hi mother to a revival 'meeting at one y of tha South . Side churches. H had reached .th "fidgety" stage of enforc ed quiet, when the minister called up on V 11 member of his flock who de sired to live a better Ufa and enter the promised land to signify the aame by alanding. Noticing that the child remained seated, th worthy rever- and walked" down the - aisle and stopped beside him, at the same time gently Inquiring. "My dear little boy. you want to go to heaven, too. don't oyuT" - "No I don't!" quickly came the re ply In tones perfectly audible to tha entire congregation. "1 want to go home, and pretty blamed quick, too! Needless to say his desire waa granted. COTTON New Tork, July 16. The New Tork Herald, admittedly an Independ ent and non-speculative newapaper, in an extended review of the cotton prospect to-day makes the following statement: "Admitting a larger acre age than laat season, the outlook does not favor a crop much above 11,600, 000 bales and, unless there Is a sud den change for the better In crop surrounding. 11,000,000 balea will be a liberal estimate." Ellison, the English atatlstican. in his last cir cular, states that the European con sumption of cotton thus far thin sea son Is 208,000 bales In excess of what It waa for the aame period last year, when the world takings of American cotton were about 12,600,000 bales. This admission by ' Klllson leaves no doubt as to the absolute neceaslty of a crop of more than 12,000,000 bales next year In order to avert a cotton famine. The prospect of the present crop, according to my advices, is rapidly deteriorating. One hundred and Torty-flve members of tha New York, Liverpool and Houthern ex changes agree that, a crop of 11,000, 000 bales this year would be worth 13.37 cts. per pound. Southern pro ducers who, in the present situation, part with their cotton at leaa than 12 cents a pound, are. In my opinion, doing then-im-lves and their com patriots an unnecessary Injury. I have, perhaps undeservedly, the reputation of being a chronic bear on cotton. For this reaaon. If no other, my present confidence in ex tremely high price should be accept ed as bnn.fl only upon the most thorough sludy of the situation. Just as thoroughly as I believed laat De cember that it waa a mistake to bull cotton above 12 rents a pound, I now believe an extraordinary advance la Imminent. Numerous reporta of ae rlous deterioration aa a result -of ex cessive rains and Insect damage are reaching me from all sections of the bolt. 1 shall .appreciate it If those to whom this" advertisement may come will let me know whether such reports are true or not.
