Kx-Slierill E. W. Taylor, of Brunswick County. Correspondence of The Observer. Wilmington, Jan. 8. News reach ed the city at an early hour this morning of the death of ex-Sheriff K W. Taylor, of Brunswick coun ty, which occurred at 10:45 o'clock last night at his home at WInnabow. Wednesday Mr. Taylor celebrated his 79th birthday with his daughter, Mrs. 1). R. Johnson, of Town Creek, near hla home, and returning that evening he complained of a slight attack of indigestion, taking some medicine to relieve himself and retiring about o'clock that night. Before morning he sufTered an attack of something like apoplexy, relapsing into uncon sciousness, from which he never ral- ! bed. Mr. Taylor was born In Onslow county but removed to Brunswick about 1 845 and had resided in the Town Creek section ever since. He wag a man of the highest Integrity, positive In his life and character but withal kindly and genial in his bear ing toward his fellow man. He waj first married to MIhh Jane Russell, a member of one of the earl ier families of the Cape Fear, and she preceded him to the grave In 1 870, leaving now surviving but one child as the result of that union. Mrs. J. R. Tharp. of Town Creek His sec ond wife was Miss Sarah E. Mreer, a daughter of Mrs. A. J. Mercer, now of this city, and she pasaed away In 1 S. From this union five children, the only remaining members of the Immediate family, now survives They are: Itt-present.it i ve C Kd Taylor, of Houthport; Mrs. John K. Gill, of Hen derson; J Mrcer Taylor, of Wilming ton; K.l-w in W. Taylor, of WInnabow. and Mrs. I). R. Johnson, of WInna bow. In s 9 Mr. Tavlor married a third time, his wife being Miss So phia J Mercer, n sister of his mec on.l wife, and ahe passed nway Iri 1H04. no children being left as the result of that union. Mr. Taylor was one of the tlrst county commissioners of Brunswick under the constitution of 1S68. which had largely to do with the re -organization of the affairs of government under the new system, and was elect ed a member of the constitutional convention of 1875. He was sheriff and treasurer of the county for four teen years, until about ISSiv, after which he served a short time as col lector of Internal revenue in Wil mington He was a member of Py thagoras Lodge No. 24, A. K. & A. M , of Soulhport, and for many years had been a consistent and faithful member and officer of Zlon M.
