It it the weakminded who can not see the hand of the political boss in the selecting of two of the candidates fov the next legisla ture. ! MEETING FOR COTTON GROWERS. . The man who votes for the good of his country is as much a patriot as the man who fights Her battles. Demagogues and hirelings get into public office because the people fail to appreciate this very im portant duty. We are glad to learn that W. D; Pethel, of Spencer, a candidate for the lower house of the legisla ture, is a man upon whom the people can rely for representation, that he does not wear the livery of the boss, he isrfree and uncol larod and would I rather stay at home than to serve in any other capacity. Now let's have another such and defeat the boss, -bonds, immigration and other schemes. Are ' the good people, the old soldiers who placed their lives on the alter of their country, and the veteran Democrats of Rowan going to submit to a vile, tyrani cal bossism? That is the keynote of the campaign in Rowan this year. We want to see this matter settled once for all and before the primaries, or else let every man who loves his home, his native land, uprightness, equal rights to all and the right to say whether Iponds and taxes shall be piled upon them year after year, as it has been for the last few years, stay out of the Democratic primaries and join any respectable element that will pledge itself to the wel fare of the people. We need no boss. Time and Place to Meet and Organize for Mutual Protection. Following is the list of appoint ments 'made by the county organ izer for the Southern Cotton Association, W. T. Bost. These meetings will be of great interest and value to the cotton growers and should be well attended. After being absent for quite awhile I will try and write a few lines again. . The health of the community is not so good at present. David T. Peeler has been quite sick for the last week, but is some better now. A good many children around here have the whooping cough, but it hasn't hurt any one very much yet. There will be communion ser vices at St. Luke's Reformed church on Easter Sunday, April 15th, at 10:30 o'clock a, m. Luther Miller and family visit- ed his father-in-law, Jacob Ribe lin, last Sunday. Sidney Lyerly and wife, from near Granite Quarry, visited Joseph Lentz, his father an-law, over Sunday, Narvey Trexler, of Gold Knob, visited Miss Jennie Frick last Sunday night. Junius Lyerly, who is clerking at Granite Quarry, was at home over Sunday. John Peeler, who is- attending school at Crescent, was at home over Sunday: Sunday school was organized at St. Luke's last Sunday and John H. C. PeelerTVas elected superin tendent for the ensuing year. Charlie Lyerly, who has been working with Contractor J. D. Brown, went with Mr. Brown and. others to Washington to build a house for Luther Brown. A number of people are taking advantage of the late offer and subscribing for The Watchman. With best wishes. r' I Uncle Ezra. LYERLY. April 9th. We don't need to get excited, because it has quit raining and we have to go to work. Most of the farmers- planted their irish potatoes last week. "We-enzes is gomto have some thing to eat." Most of the corn crop will be planted this week, according to plans. A. L. Lyrely, has sold his en tire lot of fertilizers and will net get in any more this season. C. A. Boger has been sick foi the past week, but is convalesing. We seem to think that if a mer chant buys goods for $7 and gains $25 on same his profit is 33. Isn't that correct, Bro. Bartlette? Now if a man sells two houses for $2400 each and on one gains 25 and on the other looses 25, how much is his gain or loss if any? One more to join our P. P.'s as sociation. We think he should change his name, or our other brother, Uncle Josh, may get ashamed and quit the business. We would rather have different names for each correspondent. Hal Our Lyerly merchant sells more than a four-horse load to one customer. Come again Bro. Josh. Of course the Hustler is very busy, but you may expect to hear from him just the same, C. M. Lyerly, our quarryman contemplates working for the Dunn's Mountain Granite Co. this summer. We wish him success. Easter ia coming on, so little ones you must prepare your rab bit nests and see if the rabbit comes to see you.
