The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad "Red Book" is an annual devoted especially to the interests of that corporation, but each number thus far has contained much valuable political information, which makes it a baddy and authentic work of reference. The number for 1884 bas been received, and is one of. tbe best which has yet been issued. One of the features of this work,) in which it differs ma erially from any other po litical reference book, i in the compar ison of results ore year with those ol previous years. WILMINGTON. N. C. WEDNESDAY. FEBRUARY 11, 1885. NO. 35. Great Longevity. Mr. Stephen L. French, brother of Mr. George R. French, of this city, died at bis residence in Fall River, Mass , on Sunday morn ing last, aged nearly 82 years. It will be remembered by many that the de ceased, with two other brothers from j tbe North, were in this city last year I on a visit to their brother, Mr. George R. French, and the remarkable long evity of the family was a subject of much interest. There are three brothers living; Asa, at East Marsh field, Mass., aged 85; George R., in this city, aged 83, and Job. at Fall River, Mass.. aged 79; their united ages ag gregating 247 years. The New Hampshire Club This club arrived here at half past 11 o'clock this forenoon on a special train consisting of four Pullman palace cars, being several hours behind the schedule time. The party numbered 101 persons in all, among whom were Governor Hale and about 40 ladies. They left hfre at quarter past 1 o'clock this afternoon on their way to the New Orlems Exposition via Charleston, Savannah and Jacksonville, and will stop three days at the last named place. The clnb was organized in the Fall of 1880. and now has a membership numbering more than 400 and repre senting an aggregate capital of more than $80,000 000. The President of the club is Hon. J. C. Moore, editor and proprietor of the Manchester, N. H. Union, and he is one of the best natured and best looking men in the party. They will return by the same route and, while we earnestly hope that no accident may befall Ihem, we wouid be glad if they could be induced to etcp here for a few hours so as to have a better view of our city and its indus tries. They were a very agreeable body of ladies and gentlemen, fine representatives of the Granite State, and wo, would delight to become bettor ac quainted with them. Grand Lodge K oi P. We learn from tbe Visitor that the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of North Carolina assembled in session at Raleigh yesterday morning, at 10 o'clock, and was called to order by Grand Chancellor W. T. Hollomell, of Goldsboro. The following officers were present : E. G. Harrell, P. G. C ; J. W. Moore, G. V. C. ; J. C Brewster. G. P.; R. T Scanlin, G. M. E. ; John L. Dudley, G. K. R. S, ; W. L. Jewett. G. M. A. ; E. M. Pavie, G. J. G. ; Edmunds, G. O. G. Every lodge in the State was repre sented The reports of the Grand Keeper of Records and Seal and Grand Master of Exchequer show that the Grand Lodge and all of the subordinate lodges are in an exceedingly healthy condition, both as regards membership and finances. Most of tbe lodges have increased their membership and two new lodges have been instituted during the year. The report of tbe Supreme Repre sentative shows that the general growth of the order has been unprecedented, the membership now numbering over 140.000. with 40 grand lodges. Tbe Grand Chancellor appointed the standing committees, and tbe lodge theu took a recess till 3 o'clock. King, formerly a resident of this city : Mrs. Henrietta H. D. King, of Wil mington. N. CX. a sister of Prof. Ogden Doremus. was on the witue3S stand of the United States Circuit Court several hours yesterday, describing to Judge Shipinan and a jury tbe injuries she says she suffered while alighting from a Broadway and Seventh aven ue car on April 11, 1888. She sig' nailed a car going down town. A car going up came betwc n her and it. She stepped on the rear platform of the ud bound car to cross to the other car. She told the conductor to wait for her to cet off, but he ranz the bell, she said, and she was thrown to the ground and dragged some distance. She said she suffered injuries lhat have kept her under a doctor's treatment ever since. She seeks to recover $25,000 from the com pany.
